Looking for a challenge? Creative Fabrication Artists create, fabricate, and repair animatronics, figures, skins, shells, prosthetic devices, and props of elements of the parks and resort.


Creative Fabrication Artists at Universal Orlando are responsible for:


  • Designing and fabrication of exterior skins, shells, and prosthetic appliances for animated/static figures and/or live actors including utilizing silicone, urethane, fiberglass and latex applications.

  • Sewing of accessories needed in fabrication.

  • Assessing, mixing, and applying airbrush and/or faux paint techniques, automotive paint applications as well as wet/dry brush and sponge painting.

  • Fabricating and designing of various props and molds that include sculpting (wood, plastic, clay, urethane, etc), woodworking and millwork, fiberglass and plastics as well as silicone and fiberglass jacketed.

  • Preparing work to be painted or finished.

  • Documenting work performed.

  • Maintaining equipment, supplies ad cleanliness of workstation and area.

  • Performing basic mechanical repair and carpentry skills that include the use of wrenches, screw drivers and various power tools for the repair and/or modification of molds, figures and/or props.

  • Understanding and actively participating in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established Universal Orlando policies, procedures, training, and Team Member involvement activities.

  • Performing other duties as assigned.



To perform the role of a Creative Fabrication Artist successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.


  • Consistent attendance is a job requirement.

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university with Fine Arts degree OR Experience with Theme Park Character/Scenic Maintenance.

  • Four years experience with set/prop fabrication and maintenance with the finishing aspect of animated figures; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Valid Florida Driver's License required to operate company vehicles.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to write simple correspondence effectively.

  • Ability to effectively respond to common inquiries or complaints from guests, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.

  • Ability to work with measuring instruments and use them effectively.

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

  • Ability to deal with standardized or unusual situations with many variables.


The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an individual to successfully perform the essential functions of the Creative Fabrication Artist .


  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach with hands and arms; frequently required to stand, walk, talk, or hear; occasionally required to  sit, taste, or smell.

  • The individual must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds; frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; occasionally lift/and or move  up to 75 pounds.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include: Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less); Distance Vision  (Clear vision at 20 feet or more); Color Vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors); Peripheral Vision (ability to observe and area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point); Depth Perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships); Ability to Adjust Focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus).


The work environment characteristics described below are representative of those an individual encounters while performing the essential functions of the Animation Figure Finish Artist job.


  • While performing this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts; frequently exposed to wet, humid conditions (non-weather), work in high precarious places, fumes, or airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, vibration; occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold (non-weather), extreme heat (non-weather), risk of electrical shock.

  • While performing this job, the noise level in the work environment is loud noise.
