The RN - OR Education Coordinator is responsible for the planning, implementation, education, facilitation and evaluation of educational programs for Perioperative Services. The RN - OR Education Coordinator will collaborate with the Director of Perioperative Services and the Clinical Standards Committee to review new and update current policies and procedures that affect Perioperative Services while using National Standards to guide those policies and procedures.
The RN - OR Education Coordinator is responsible and accountable for the care of the assigned patients and directs others to assure Patient-Centered Care which is based on patient needs, values, and choices. The nurse is expected to practice autonomously within the scope of professional standards, the rules, and regulations established by the Tennessee Board of Nursing, and knowledge of policies and procedures within Mountain States Health Alliance. He/she demonstrates skill in developing and guiding collaborative collegial practice that delivers safe competent care based on meticulous application of the nursing process. He/she demonstrates sensitivity and understanding of the diverse cultural backgrounds of patients and caregivers. The position involves maintaining current knowledge of evidence based nursing practice and the ability to demonstrate critical thinking skills in the implementation of all phases of the nursing process. He/she actively participates in patient care quality and performance improvement through data collections, aggregation and analysis of relevant key indicators of quality (KIQ's). This commitment to quality results in the development and implementation of action plans to include the monitoring of the effectiveness of improvements (Hold the Gains). The RN serves as a professional role model as a caregiver, mentor, teacher and resource for peers and other providers. He/she demonstrates competency in the care of surgical patients .

Job duties of this position may require access to protected patient information (PHI). The team member will be accountable for appropriate use of the record and compliance with all confidentiality and security policy and procedures related to use, access, and disclosure of PHI.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
Reports to the Director of Perioperative Services. Works cooperatively with Clinical Managers/Unit Leaders, Specialty Coordinators, and Perioperative Staff.

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and is currently licensed to practice as a professional nurse in the appropriate state. Baccalaureate is required or Masters degree preferred. A minimum of five years experience in Perioperative Nursing is required, greater than 5 years is preferred. CNOR is preferred.
Must be able to demonstrate basic computer skills including Word and Excel .
Must be able to complete job related competencies as deemed necessary to the performance of the RN role in the department .
CONTINUING EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Plans and conducts a minimum of two hours of job related educational programs .
2. Obtains 12 hours educational credit.
3. Verbalizes understanding of Shared Governance Model and willingly serves on at least one Shared Governance, hospital committee, task force, or project to improve patient care or work area.
4. Identifies relevant patient care and/or nursing practice KIQ's (key indicators of quality). This is achieved by using PDCA methodology and the appropriate data collection, aggregation, analysis and trending in the demonstration of measurable improvement outcomes.
5. Attends 75% of staff meetings and reads 100% of the minutes of the meetings missed.
