History

Cablevision traces its roots back to the 1960s when Charles Dolan first created a cable system in Manhattan. He then sold the system and began a new cable system, calling it Cablevision. It was originally built in the New York metro area before expanding to other states. By the end of the century, the company served 19 states and nearly 3 million subscribers. Cablevision then decided to consolidate its business into a few core areas and sold its remaining systems. The company sold its Optimum West systems in 2013.
