Corning operates in five segments, including Display Technologies, Environmental Technologies, Telecommunications, Life Sciences, and Specialty Materials.

Products & Services

The Display Technologies segment offers consumers with glass products that allow for thin, high quality, and versatile displays. This division's glass technologies are found in electronic devices used for televisions, computers, and handheld devices. Environmental Technologies range from ceramic substrates to particulate filters for fuel-powered vehicles; these clean-air products are designed to control pollution output and emissions. The Telecommunications segments provides cable systems, optical fibers, and more for enhanced broadband capabilities. The Life Sciences portfolio encompasses a score of biology products such as: cell culture, automation, microbiology, molecular biology, assays, and more. Through this segment, Corning presents labware solutions to scientists and researchers. Lastly, Corning Specialty Materials features solutions for the high-tech industry. Specialty Materials products offer glass ceramics, glass science, and other optics solutions.


Founded in 1851 and incorporated in 1936, the company was preceded by the Bay State Class Co. Amory Houghton created the company and then moved to New York, operating under Brooklyn Flint Glass Works. The company finally settled on its current name after moving operations again to Corning, New York. Having been in glass technologies for more than a century, Corning has a history of introducing science-based glass products such as a new sturdier, thinner, and lighter car windshield and LCD glasses.
