Online services include billing and payments, account management, and deals. Businesses can find similar products and services but tailored towards the needs of a business. Duke Energy provides businesses with safety and education programs, energy efficiency services, and renewable energy programs, among others. On the other hand, large businesses can seek customer account services, outdoor lighting services, electric services as well as programs to self-generate solar, wind, and other types of energy.
Duke Energy was established by Dr. W. Gill Wylie, James Buchanan Duke and William States Lee in 1916. The three developed a network of generating stations and transmission lines and continued to grow the company’s fleet through the years. Post WWII, Duke Energy enjoyed expansion due to the economic boom and thriving growth for electric appliances. Towards the end of the century, the company began to engage in new gas generation and in 2007 it spun off its natural gas business. In 2012 Duke Energy combined with Progress Energy, allowing the expansion of its services to new customers and states. Today the company serves more than 7 million electric customers and 500,000 gas customers.
