Simply Hired Releases November 2011 U.S. Employment Outlook
Nationwide Hiring Positive for Fourth Consecutive Month
Mountain View, Calif. – November 1, 2011 – SimplyHired.com®, the world’s largest job search engine, today released its November Employment Outlook highlighting national and local market outlooks, and industry and employer trends.
Nationwide hiring remains positive.
Nationwide job openings increased for the fourth consecutive month, up 5.9 percent month-over-month and 10.0 percent year-over-year. Openings were previously up 0.7 percent month-over-month and 9.0 percent year-over-year.
“Hiring remained positive this month due to continued demand for seasonal workers,” said Gautam Godhwani, CEO of SimplyHired.com. “SimplyHired.com anticipates positive job growth through the end of the year resulting from further seasonal hiring during Thanksgiving and winter holidays.”
Most major metros experience job growth.
All 50 metros saw positive month-over-month growth in October, with 47 of 50 metros also posting positive year-over-year growth. Job competition remained similar to last month; Miami and Fort Lauderdale, and Las Vegas, held stable as the most competitive metro areas for job seekers, both with an 8:1 job competition ratio.
Retail hiring continues to see growth.
The retail industry posted a 94.4 percent year-over-year growth, despite a month-over-month drop in hiring (-8.6 percent) due most likely to the break between the Halloween and Thanksgiving holidays. Job openings for retail salespersons were up 86.1 percent this month, just shy of last month’s 88.8 percent growth. Retail hiring will continue to see an increase due to seasonal hiring trends expected through the end of the year.
