Simply Hired Releases November Employment Outlook Report
Job openings decrease slightly in October but remain significantly higher than one year ago
Sunnyvale, Calif. – November 4, 2013 – Simply Hired® today released its November 2013 U.S. Employment Outlook report which shows that nationwide job openings decreased 0.4% month-over-month in October 2013. However, job openings were up 33.4% compared to October 2012.
“Simply Hired’s data from October shows a slight dip in job openings compared to last month, but still very positive growth year-over-year,” said James Beriker, president and CEO of Simply Hired. “Healthcare companies, in particular, continue to aggressively post job openings. Bright spots for people looking for jobs include non-profits, as well as education roles.”
Job openings increase in one of five of major metros. Job openings increased in 11 of 50 major metros in October. Metro areas West Palm Beach, FL (3.5%), Salt Lake City, UT (3.2%) and Harrisburg, PA (2.5%) experienced the largest gains.
Job openings increase in half of all industries. Job openings increased in 9 out of 18 industries in October, with non-profit (13.7%) showing the largest gain. Nearly one-third of all occupation categories (7 out of 23) experienced growth in job openings in October. Educator (including librarians) (10.2%) and HR, compliance and business operations (3.7%) roles experienced the largest amount of growth month-over-month.
Healthcare remains the industry with greatest job inventory. Approximately one-third of the top posting companies in October were healthcare-related (approximately 43 company locations), making healthcare the top posting industry. Management consulting and financial services also had a significant number of job openings.
