Simply Hired Releases March Employment Outlook Report

Sunnyvale, CA – March 4, 2014 – Simply Hired® today released its March 2014 U.S. Employment Outlook report, the conclusion of which is that job openings nationwide increased 4.6% in February 2014 and were up 25.8% compared to the same time last year. Nearly all industries posted growth in job openings (17 out of 18 industries), with legal (29.1%) and travel (20.3%) showing the largest gains.

“Simply Hired’s data shows solid growth in job openings across all industries other than construction, which, we believe, has been significantly impacted by weather,” said James Beriker, CEO of Simply Hired. “Based on our data, job seekers who have or who can acquire the required skill sets have a growing set of opportunities for employment. We are optimistic about the employment market heading into spring.”

Nearly all industries post growth. Job openings increased in 17 out of 18 industries in February 2014, with legal (29.1%) and travel (20.3%) showing the largest gains. Construction (-12.1%) was the only industry to see a decrease during this period.

More jobs open up in almost every occupation. Nearly all occupation categories (20 out of 23) experienced growth in job openings in February 2014 with building and groundskeeper (16.6%) and military personnel (15.8%) roles showing the largest gains. Scientists, social scientists and lab tech (-25.9%) and manufacturing (-2.4%) roles faced the largest decline during this period.

Healthcare continues as industry with greatest job inventory. More than one-third of the top posting companies in February 2014 were healthcare-related, making healthcare the top posting industry.
