Copywriters draft advertisements or “copy” in order to encourage the sales of a product or a service. They often coordinate their efforts with musicians, artists, graphic designers and other professionals when they create content. They might help create banners, jingles, marketing direction, branding, theme, slogans, emails, blogs and more.

What tasks would I perform as Copywriter?

If you want to be a copywriter, you will need to pull ideas out of the client and communicate them to the audience in an appealing format with creative wording. You might write for magazines, social media, newspapers, broadcasts, other journalistic sources and online venues. You will write up drafts and work with other team members, such as artists, musicians and editors, before finalizing the material.

What education, qualifications and education would I need as a Copywriter?

Most companies require a college degree in journalism, education, English, languages, communication or in a related field. You will need exceptional writing skills, and which you can gain additional experience via an internship. As an intern, you might do research, draft copy, provide feedback and learn more about the industry.

Employers usually consider relevant work experience, such as working at school media outlets, advertising, publishing, radio, television and magazines. Even writing a blog can provide you with valuable experience. In addition, experience in coding and programing can give some applicants an advantage.
