Absolute awful place to work!
I need to put more details but this company is a bunch of blood suckers. I have had to file three separate lawsuits against 99 for various state and federal violations the work culture here is very poor

Great for people who need to work part time
I worked for a total of 5 years with the 99 Cents Only Store and the only negative experience I had were bad managers who were usually quickly transferred/fired and replaced with great ones. The management are typically caring and will work with you to meet your schedule needs.

If you’re a great worker, do not work here.
Hard work is not appreciated or acknowledged. You’ll be expected to do more than your position requires for minimum wage. Management doesn’t accomodate to you health issues or available hours. It’s nice when you get there, within a week you’ll be mistreated. A lot of people quit after a couple weeks. You will get cussed at.
ProsEverything is a dollar to eat.
ConsHealth issues don’t matter, doctors notes mean nothing.

It’s great working there because you grow in so many ways yet not alone but with employees and customers alike. They work with about any schedule needed.

Great Part-time job with minimal hours.
This job is great for people looking for a bit of cash, out of school, or looking for a summer job. Part-time is only 4 hour shifts but sometime OT is optional. No experience is needed for an easy job like this. Very flexible hours & you are busy to the point where the shift goes by very quick. Sometimes if there are too many cashiers you are able to work on go backs & recovering the store, or they'l; have you stock. The downfall is they do not hire again, & the breaks are only 10 minutes long. Also the management isn't very welcoming at first if you are first starting out.
ProsDiscount
ConsShort Breaks, Poor Management, High expectations of store Policies

Job is Average.
The Job was fun for the time I was there. They did have flexibility that did help me at the time. Train and mentor new associates on correct stoking procedures. Verified incoming shipments against paperwork and checked for damages. Pallet Breaker, Display Builder, Deli and Frozen food stocker. Team Leader of a General Manager Regional Store, top 3 stores in the region.

Nice people that work together
Worked there for three years. They have more formal process for reviews and I always got a raise. They give credit where credit is due and appreciate your hard work.

What is the interview process like at 99 Cents Only Store?
Asked Jun 18, 2016
The interview was easy just asked about previous work and told me what they were looking for and asked me if I think i could do the job I said yes and got the job
Answered Apr 17, 2020
It really depends on the store that your applying too?!!!! I had an interview today at 99 cent stores and the Manager.....was very strict & a little aggressive! He made me wait a while before interviewing me & he didn’t ask for my resume....just got straight to the questions! He said I would know something by the end of the day and if not they decided to hire someone else.....so no my interview was not hired on the spot nor was it that easy! So it really depends on the store & the manager....😬

If you were to leave 99 Cents Only Store, what would be the reason?
Asked Mar 25, 2017
I love working at the 99, it's very convenient to me. But the SM is like the the owner of the 99 cents this is how he talked to us every morning. - if you fill like you are being mistreated you are free to go" - I came from the office yesterday, and I got a hit from them. but, I will not take it alone, all of you will feel the hit as well. - No matter what you said, there's nothing gonna change - He slapped my Hand! This is classic in one of the mtgs. one of the employee said F man, you said all I have to do is follow you.....blah, blah, blah! BOOM! F U! hahaha!
Answered Feb 22, 2020
The paltry raise of a whopping 10 cents is really a slap in the face for the ones like me who bust tail and this was just a hard and depressing fact that corp does not value its employees. It is wasnt for the 401 and scheduling of hours I would leave. Corp needs to rewards those who make there money from the customers. Show you care honestly.. Even offering a bird or ham for the holiday to employees would show you care and that we the backbone work ourselves to appease the customers. Without them you would not have your salary.. Remember the little people.. We matter. I scored 100 on mystery shop what do I get? No flyer or info.. Didn't even know it existed.
