Overall Reviews at ALSTOM
Performance Engineer | Windsor, CT | Nov 10, 2018
I absolutely loved working at Alstom. It was a fulfillment of one of my career aspirations
I absolutely loved working at Alstom. It was a fulfillment of one of my career aspirations. I was very satisfied with everything at this company, however all that was short lived as I was one of the unfortunate engineers to be laid off 8 years ago.
ProsAwesome work environment, excellent benefits. Excellent learning curve, great products.
ConsGot laid off too soon

No Market anymore for Utility Boilers.
There is low market for Boilers and Management makes one good decision and several bad ones. GE is promoting to leave the company. If money is not a priority is a Great Place to work.
ProsRemote working, unlimited vacations.
ConsIt’s more difficult to sell utility boilers.

Work hard play hard
Tough schedules/budget challenges but they fund innovation and new product design so if you like to create new products and be a part of vital infrastructure this a good place to work.

good work/life balance but not very exciting work
The work/life balance at Alstom is pretty great and the compensation and benefits are really good. But, if you are not very excited about trains and train systems, it is not the best place to work at.

Turbine Maintenance and testing Engineer
My day at works begins with testing for plant entrance requirements. Meeting daily with site leadership and briefing crew or preforming testing on my own. Usual day when testing is 12-16 hours due to a limited time at the facility. When leading a group of usually 10-12 men on an inspection when the HP/IP/LP/Gen rotors are being removed make for a long outage and 12-14 hour days, arranging for material and logistics for item coming and leaving. Work out doors in weather below zero and above 100 degrees for 45 days.
Working on units that make $450/per MW hour on turbines that produce 250-800 MW.
ProsGreat work experience and training
Conslong periods away from home

Product Owner | Melbourne, FL | Nov 30, 2018
A big disappointment
Company is not well managed. Too many contracts with too few dollars ends up making you work way too hard to make schedules that are unrealistic and which will never make money.
Management is firmly invested in the good-old-boy network and many are just waiting for retirement.
Constoo many contractors. Always chasing unprofitable contracts
