Awesome environment, but poor pay raises for the ones who do their job well!
Bottom line, they have you learn so much. Usually both sides of the store once you get down your first side. You learn about all types of products, specific brands, models, etc. and they way they work, what makes two different from one another and how to question/converse your customer to identify their needs to recommend the best product and add-ons they may need. They push being a wedding consultant on you, especially if you’re a woman out on the sales floor or if you’re in a smaller volume store. For all the things you learn and the expectations of being a quality associate in “the only store of its kind,” they sure as heck don’t pay/give raises adequately to the employees who learn their trade(s) well. I loved working here, but the pay sucked. I started at $8.75 in 2012 & ended at $13.15(maybe?) in 2019. The major change in pay rate was the fact that the minimum wage hike went into effect.. I got a whole like $0.20 for the hike for my being there for so many years. Was ridiculous.

Not for me
This isn't a bad place to work if you are young and without family. They spring mandatory overtime on you literally the same day. As a single parent, that's absolutely difficult, if not impossible, to accommodate and it feels like management has no respect for your personal life.

Although the job was hard work, I have made friends there that I knew I will have for a lifetime. I also learned a lot from the classes during training.

Didn't feel welcome, training was absent. Hired as manager in training by district manager, unknown to store manager. Communication between associates and management is nil.

If you enjoy working for less money?
There are plenty of things to enjoy at Bed Bath & beyond! However for what is expected of you for the position and so many details to grasp ahold of is very detailed.
ProsGreat Team to work with with plenty of training!
ConsSo Much is required for the work load. Not enough wages!

Good Experience
Work culture was good but not great. Management was just fine. No new opportunities to learn but extra hours to work. Hardest part of job was to make people work together.

Fun Work Environment
Great job for experience in the retail world. There is a lot of growing in the business and room for improvement and growth. Getting to meet and help new people all the time.

Some people were good to work with
Not everyone was good to work with, sometimes management was lacking in all areas, praise was not given when should be. Over worked and underpaid but the people sometimes made it worth jt

If you were in charge, what would you do to make Bed Bath & Beyond a better place to work?
Asked Jan 22, 2018
Keep the people who know how to work the floor and increase sales. Pay them what they deserve. Stop hiring cheap labor, and stop cutting hours for those who should get more hours. Get rid of those who are just there to collect a paycheck.
Answered Apr 2, 2020
Be more enthusiastic towards team work.

do i ever have to work really early before the store opens?
Asked Jan 29, 2016
Take my advise and ask for as much as your can prior to being hired. Know that you will be living with that income for a number of years. They have a tendency of only giving .05 to .15 cent raises with each review.
Answered Dec 9, 2019
Depends on your job description.
