Exciting work place, great team and energetic staff!
Working at Chanel was an amazing learning experience and allowed me to develop as a person and as an artist. I learned to better communicate my ideas and work efficiently with large groups of people. A typical work day included maintaining visual displays and sets, while also carrying out some administrative in the office. My counterpart and I planned and informed the staff about floor moves and over night installations for new collection launches. I managed stock and inventory, as well as sample items for the displays. I developed my skills to build a strong visual composition as well as a better understanding of color. My team and I worked closely with Paris to develop concepts for new sets that coincided with the runway etc. I really enjoyed the workplace culture at Chanel, it is great to work with equally passionate people in a high energy and fast paced environment. The management was sometimes lacking but overall everyone pulled their weight to make the end result come together. The hardest part about my job was the time crunch and pressure my team and I were often under. Although exciting and intense, it was sometimes exhausting. The hours are long and there were often nights I was working until 3 or 4am. Regardless, it was exciting and seeing the finished display always made it worth it. The most enjoyable part of my day was working with such amazing people who appreciated the work I conducted. The team was positive and encouraged everyone to think

Look elsewhere.
• The organization is top heavy and relies on too many middle managers to make concrete decisions from a boutique level • There is a serious breakdown in communication between subordinates and managers and the sheer number of managers makes it confusing to proceed with how best to handle tasks • Client escalations and issues were left for (inexperienced) subordinates to address - it was next to impossible to get a manager on duty to intervene • Unprofessionalism is rampant and it was common for gossip to spread like wildfire, equating to the currency used to get in a manager’s good graces (this was a big deal) • Favoritism and ego stroking were blatant and obvious between staff and managers • Corporate is unclear regarding roles within the company, and often tasks were assigned to incapable individuals • Salary is not competitive and growth is nonexistent • Inadequate documentation of unacceptable behavior by management • Cliquey environment If you're looking for a place that values you as an asset, look elsewhere.
Prospension, wellness fund (if they haven't cut that due to covid)
ConsCondescending managers and staff, disorganized org, faux team environment

Productive and enjoyable workplace where I could work creatively and either independently or with a team.
A typical day working at Chanel involved providing excellent customer service, while demonstrating my professionalism, creativity, and passion for the brand. I learned a lot about my personal strengths and weaknesses, but mostly about the importance of maintaining relationships with my clients. My management team and co-workers were all terrific people to work with. They each brought something unique to Chanel and helped me find my own special place within the company. The most difficult part of my job was keeping up with the company policies. When working with a luxury brand such as Chanel, there are a lot of rules and regulations that must be followed at all times. The most enjoyable part of my job was getting to know the people who shopped there and the products they were shopping for. I received the most pleasure helping a client find exactly what they are looking for. For me, making other people happy is what fulfills me. If my job can do that for me, I know I'm on the right path.

Territory Manager | Tennessee | Jul 23, 2016
The Wertheimer family is focused on developing & growing Gabrielle's legacy.
I was a territory manager for the Chanel Cosmetic brand within Tennessee for 9 years. The success, passion and loyalty of the Beauty Advisors that worked at the following retailers: Nordstrom, Dillards, Macys & Belk stood out from all other cosmetic brands. These sales associates had an extensive knowledge of Gabrielle Chanel's vision and commitment to excellence. Because of their elevated sales results they were highly sought after by the competition. I have since left CHANEL, the main reason was due to the lack of support from the New York Office. Often there was no clear communication or direction from upper management. Our National meetings (held once every 6 months) was the only time we received important product information. Only if you asked questions did you show-up on upper managements radar. Unfortunately, this also meant you were questioning the status quo. This was not looked upon favorably.
ProsBrand heritage and customer awareness.
ConsLack of communication & support at field sales level.

Fast-paced, rewarding, learning environment
Overall amazing. They do care about you even though you are an intern (may depend on the department). As a person who did an internship not even related to my field, it made me change my method of thinking and prompted me to change my career as well, from a non-tech to a tech. The New York office is really nice and there is a luxury vibe. However, sometimes, you may feel a little left out if you don't speak French. But no matter what language you speak, you love Chanel products and its prestige. I learned that there is a reason Chanel is still respected today. This is not only because of its powerful, innovative history, but also the hard-working people today. Chanel is very fast-paced.
ProsDiscounts (if you are intern, depends on your team), Learning opportunities, interesting assignments
ConsUnpaid for interns (I think now they pay), Sometimes not much to do, Can feel a bit left out if you don't know French

Amazing place to work
The first thing I do is check the emails and communications from the corporate report, assign goals and strategies to the BA's, followed to help to set the displays from the merchandise, coordinate the current events along with the upcoming ones. Be ready for a store morning meeting where numbers plan are discussed versus Last Year mark. Greet and assign each Business Associates with a business strategy in order to create a fun place and a great opportunity to make goals! The hardest part of the job is to assist clients whom does not speak english or spanish, but thanks to the fact that I work in a multicultural place, I am always able to find a translator to assist in the communication. The most enjoyable part of my job is to meet my clients on a level of 100% satisfaction.
ProsDue to my reputation, I am completely trusted at what I do. Decision making, etc
ConsThe hours of operations are inconsistent

Knowledgeable and exciting workplace
- Exceeding client expectations with Chanel service standards is by far the best part of my day. When a client leaves feeling better than when they walked in, I know my job was successfully completed. - The hardest part of my job is handling difficult client situations with grace and poise. - My co-workers are my family; we spend many, many hours together and build a bond that is bar-none. - I have learned a tremendous amount about Chanel's savoir faire, culture, history, and heritage. Knowing this, makes for a better client experience and really allows me to build a strong relationship with the client, and make her feel like she is walking away with a piece of history.
Prosbuilding relationships, networking, learning about garment construction, fabrics, and having vast product knowledge across all product categories.

Operations Associate | New York, NY | Oct 19, 2022
Great benefits, okay pay, spoiled management
Lots of work for operations. They take long to hire new staff and the stock Associates are typically the ones to train, instead of management. Turnover isn’t as bad as some companies but people tend to get fed up easily. You get to do different tasks from time to time. Current management has changed compared to when I worked there. There was an ops director who had a very “strong” personality who was promoted to corporate so you don’t really get to see them as often. Pay is usually $22-24/hr starting for stock which isn’t amazing but better than some other places. Good luck getting a strong raise. Lots of cliques among selling staff. There was some well deserved promotions for stock in the last year. Turnover like I said before isn’t bad but isn’t the best. Lots of patience needed on a daily basis as some selling staff are hard to work with.

Chanel Encore
I would start my shift at 9am. We would begin by short morning briefing conducted by the manager on duty. I would go around the store to ensure that all necessary stocks and back of the house materials are maintained. Then we take all the paid customer purchase items down to our stockroom and ensure that items are securely wrap in our luxury Chanel boxes to prepare customer's packages so that they are received safely and intact. Ensuring successful delivery and transfer of goods to its intended destination. The hardest part of the job was to perform to lift packages that might weigh between 50 and 100 pounds. The most enjoyable part of the job was you can meet all kinds of different personalities. You never alone and great teamwork.

Chanel
I was required to take on the role of Assistant Marketing Manager for the entire duration of my internship due to staff changes within the business. I was responsible for managing the CRM database, and overseeing the supplier invoice and payment process. I liaised with stores on sample requests and supervised the store visual merchandising of beauty and fragrance products. I helped prepare and present briefs designed to target external retail buyers on new Chanel collections, and was solely responsible for various other research presentations, including price comparisons between Mexico and France, and Chanel competitor research. I presented all research projects to the marketing and communications team alone. I took part in the organization and management of store product promotion events, and managed the related social media and online marketing. I was also involved in the planning of a Mexico City pop-up store.

A challenging and disappointing workplace
Throughout my time with Chanel I was immensely proud to represent this wonderful company. However the attitude is always because Chanel have given you a job you should be grateful and there is never any recognition for the efforts and dedication rendered. Targets were generally just out of reach, so full commission potential is rarely attainable. Most other beauty houses I have worked for provide free product allocation, not the case here, you are able to purchase discounted products every 3 months upto a maximum of £175. Management offered little support and I seen a lot of dedicated and talented people leave the company because it was not what it once was, and they were allowed to leave, with less than desirable members of staff remaining.
ProsGlobally recognised company, nice commission schemes
ConsNo recognition for your efforts, outdated management and attitudes Far too staid for a company of this level

Don’t be fooled by the brand. It’s a terribly run company with toxic people
The only good thing about this position is the free products or discounted stuff you get. Plus the training program is quite good as you get to stay in a nice Mayfair hotel. However the people that work for this company and truly toxic and horrible. Everybody thinks they are something special because they work for ‘Chanel’. Upper management used to ignore the team when they walked onto the counter and only speak to the business manager and just completely ignore you. They do nothing for your career and if your not someone who sucks up to the managers and ‘fits’ in then you won’t get anywhere. Prepared to be fake if you want to progress. Lots of other great brands to work for in beauty, stay clear.
ProsFree and discounted products
ConsTerrible management, Bullying, horrible people everywhere throughout the company, no progression, horrible competitive environment
