Overall Reviews at Currys PC World

Useless company, shoddy management, company death imminent
I've been a business advisor at Currys PC World for a while, and was warned when I started that I have the worst job in the store. I dont know how true that is but heres some of the gems:
1) bonus is a lie. You have to achieve RIDICULOUS numbers to get any bonus. Over achieving by 25% on all five of your difficult to achieve targets secures you 25% of your wages as bonus. They are literally making many, many thousands in profit margin off of your hard work, and you'll earn about 2 or 3 grand a year in bonus. What a joke!
2) Management are absolutely useless and have no clue how to manage. The store I'm in suffers from experience overriding competence, where gloriously thick managers are there because they've sunk twenty five years into the company. Too expensive to make redundant, too thick to promote, so middle management at CPCW is generally useless.
3) no progression whatsoever.
4) CONSTANT moving of the goalposts. The whole place has a 1984 double think mentality of 'we're not doing this, we're doing THIS now', but within a week it's back to the old way and the new way never existed. Their current model is 'freedom within a framework' which sounds suspiciously Auschwitzesque
5) understaffing, under hours and general lack of knowledge from most staff. Many people are wasted there due to their competence. Many more are utterly useless.
6) if you make a shed load of bonus (good luck it won't happen) a couple of bad customer satisfaction surveys can ruin the whole st...more

Great place to work for
I’ve been working in currys for just over 3 years and have to say it’s an amazing place to work for!, I’ve been doing part time. Yes it is sales orientated which some people either love or hate, compared to other part time jobs like spar. Your actually working towards something and it has transferable skills you can use anywhere.
Their is targets to meet however definitely a lot more laid back than when I started.
If you are genuinely interested in technology whether it be TVs, laptops and tablets or washing machines and ovens, then this is a great place to work for! however if your only doing it for the pay you will probably last a few months as in general currys colleagues are meant to know a lot before actually coming into the job. You do get training trips, online classes etc, but having the knowledge prior will give you a massive boost in doing well in the business
Downsides that can be associated with the business is add on products which personally I don’t see as an issue. Customers need additional items on certain devices to function exactly the way the need it (office 365 software for a laptop for example) as mentioned the sales is a lot less laid back and can’t speak for every store but my store are very easy as long as I find out a bit about my customer and if they genuinely don’t need it or understand what they won’t get with the computer then they won’t complain.
Pay in the company as well in my opinion for part time work is very good bonuses are in...more
ProsGood place to work for if you are part time

Dreadful place to work.
If you want to slave away, be treated with utter contempt, respect demanded from you when the majority of managers don’t deserve an ounce of respect, have 13 KPI’s to hit, threatened with punishments on a regular basis, never praised for any good work, women don’t get promoted, then get yourself applying 👌🏻 You’ll have a ball!
Cons continued.... too many KPI’s - punished at any available opportunity - staff turnover in our store of 70% - management poorly trained & unprofessional - hearing of store managers slating members of staff, swearing & insulting them - no motivational management - you will be “managed out of the business if your face doesn’t fit - colleague surveys that aren’t taken any notice of when the whole store is unhappy - need I say more?

Productive and good working environment
Strong career prospect, exciting and fast paced work environment. Everyday comes with a new event. Selling broadband deals are the hardest, but when you get a blast on it, it’s easy money all the way. I usually strive to get a triple. That’s selling a phone contract with geek squad insurance, a set of accessories to go and a broad band deal. If a customer consultant can sell 5 of these kind of deals every week, you are guaranteed of a good commission pay at the end of the month.
The work environment is totally sales driven, product knowledge and a student mentality is strongly recommended.
ConsLow salary base structure

There are some great people!
Continual structure changes due to incapable senior management. No idea what they are doing and in little or no detail of any processes or procedures.
Implement changes with no input from front line staff or middle management. Make jobs up to appease staff that may have grounds to take to grievance.
There is no clear strategy in place, objectives are a farce!! Obsessed with reporting and make knee jerk reactions based on assumptions.
Absolutely no care for the front line staff at all the culture is toxic and poisonous!
ProsSome of the people!

Great job for a student
Great job for students who are looking to make some money on the side. Enjoyable days depending on your team. There are high targets to meet, but management are relaxed if these are met.

Overall the company is good but there's a lot that needs to be worked on such as managers and the way they deal with problems also the times that are given to start shots are sometimes unreasonable

Fun Place to Work
Enjoyed working at Dixons carphone but the company kept changing and moving goalposts that were not realistic, which means we could not achieve our bonuses with the objectives set.

fun staff to work with unorganized management at times which are a bit too reliant on the sales consultants at times which allows the pressure to mount.
