Fast paced and overworked
The job is good if you're wanting to stay busy and have other goals in mind. If they like you, you typically will enjoy your time there. The pay isn't enough for the stress from management in my experience. If you're an AM or GM consider your personal life to barely exist. I was told if I am on salary that I am always on the clock. I took work phone calls on every off day, after the store was closed and before the store opened. I'm talking 6 am and midnight. Even on your off day, you are reminded of how much work you have waiting for you when you return. I was constantly told to do better and that I was replaceable just as everyone else. There are some good people I worked with that made me believe there was a reason I allowed myself to stay with this company for as long as I did. Depending on who you work for... most of your time is spent being a robot and kissing up to any guest regardless of how they treat you. If they cursed at you then you can tell them to leave. Yet, I've watched upper management get into full blown arguments with guests and then throw the food down and walk off the line. Thats where I would come in, the general manager, and try to dissolve the awkwardness about what just happened. I get you have your off days, but that's happened multiple times. In order to get a raise with salary, another employee with the same title has to be fired or quit and then once they are desperate for people to stay and do more work they will offer you more money... so it see

Upper Management DOES NOT CARE and PAY IS THE ABSOLUTE LOWEST/ Co-workers are amazing though
Work-life balance As a shift manager or higher in this company, don't worry about having any kind of life outside of work. Upper management has no respect or disregard for any one and assume that this job is the only purpose you live for. It's not healthy. Pay & benefits This is, by far, is the lowest paying food job in the city. For the relentless and stressful hours of hard work put in, the pay is a slap in the face. Owners seem to think that they don't have to spend money (i.e. paying competitive compensation for strong, entitled, experienced workers) in order to make money. You'll be promised raises month after month, heck, even hazard pay during a pandemic - ... and... - will never receive a dime. Ok, exaggeration, maybe you'll literally get a dime for a raise ever six months or so. Bottom line, this companie's ownership and upper management DO NOT care for employee's hardwork, sacrifice, well-being, or lives, blatantly. Job security and advancement Unless hired as upper management, you will hear endless false promises about promotions but may seldomly see one. If, six months down the line (and you're still working there) you DO get a job title promotion, you'll be lucky if you see an immediate pay increase. They love to take advantage without paying for the luxury. Management The employees and immediate general manager are the best people you'll ever work with, I will vouch for that. As for the district managers... They have to be the worst possible kind of backstabb

Terrible enviroment that works to suck all the will of working out of even the most dedicated employees
I was employed with jersey mikes for a little over a year and a half. During that time I dedicated every waking moment I had to them. When someone called in sick I was there to cover the shift. When they needed extra help on a randomly busy day I was there. When my co-workers were thinking about leaving I was there to convince them not to. I believed that this company was one that had a bright future and a leadership team that cared about their employees and wanted them to succeed just as much as the business. Towards the end of my stay with them I unfortunately saw their true colors. They DO NOT CARE about any of their employees. Every single one of them is strictly used as a tool with an expiration date. They only try to extend that expiration as far as possible. The most important thing to know is that they will guilt you for any time of that you need no matter the reason. Whether it is family from out of country, your child is sick, or your dog needs an emergency vet visit they will make sure you feel bad about it. They will remind you about it every chance they get in order to get you to put in extra effort for them. In my experience I did not take a single sick day for 14 months and then once I finally needed to take one I awaken to multiple calls and texts lecturing me about my commitment to the job. If you do manage to get them to let you have off expect to be punished with your hours being cut and them being short with you in store. All of the managers and assistants

A place where hard work is rewarded but not everyone works hard
A typical day at Jersey Mike's would consist of slicing and grilling hundreds of sandwiches. Often making sure my co workers would would be on task and doing their task correctly. Dealing with huge lunch rushes and confused customers, often walking them through their own orders. Maintain a clean work area and finally closing the store with a short staff sums up a typical day at Jersey Mike's. What I learned working here is really the essence of hard work, that getting things done in a timely matter is important. I learned how to work with and around co workers, and I also learned to put people in positions where they would excel in. Management was a bit wonky in Jersey Mike's seeing that we had two GM's, as well the two owners in the store. Not to mention that including myself there were 4 other shift leaders working. Often times authority was questioned and micromanaging made working there annoying. You would want to get the green light for a simple question and had to go through 8 people to get it. Sometimes people wouldn't listen to certain leaders or not work as hard with others. As implied my co workers are great people and I enjoyed working with them. However due to lack of training and their own personal attitudes working some was a hassle. In all I love my old co workers but their work ethic wasn't the best. The hardest part of the job was my task, closing the store. This was a extremely hard task for a magnitude of reasons. The first reason being that we only had th

Work hard and get rewards. -from a former Assistant Manager.
The workplace: The workplace is always and energetic. Not a day goes by where I feel I don't want to meet or interact with any of my coworkers. New sales and promotions hype up the customers and really makes the atmosphere more lively. The clientele: Customers are some the best you'll ever encounter, such a wholesome community. Always fun to open communicate with when you meet the numerous regulars. Rarely and I mean RARELY do we have crabby customers here. Pay: Pay is decent for what you do and the hourly tips only seem to get higher by the week. But it isn't for everyone. There are countless things that need to be tended to and when you're low on staff, the cons can seem to outweigh the pros. You get paid biweekly btw. Management: Managers and owners are some of the best you'll ever work with. They're extremely generous with your time and will almost always cater to you if terms can be met. They're also very hands on and engaging in the store so you'll always feel like you have a great team leader beside you. One thing I learned about the job is to never stop asking questions. You'll get better with the answers and the raises will come quick. THE CONS: No job is without its flaws. While fairly minimum from perspective, thankfully. One of the biggest ones is when staff tend to underperform. That's in regards to prep work, attending shifts on time, and closing work. This can be fixed with continuing training however. Benefits are limited. Job only offers health insurance and
ProsFree lunch/dinner, Flexible with your time so you can make the ideal schedule that benefits you, FANTASTIC crew members. Cannot stress that enough, Great career opportunities, Very hands on and engaging. Making interactions with customers very fun and enjoyable, Higher hourly tip rate than most jobs. Usually $5-$7 minimum.
ConsThe hours and work can build up real fast and can make a full-timmer feel burnt out incredibly fast, Not much in the way of benefits for a franchise this big, Starting rate of pay could be a little higher given the raises in prices and lack of staff, depending on location.

Friendly and organized work environment, with managerial issues
A typical day at work simply comprised of making customers' food orders, keeping the store clean and being friendly and helpful to customers and the crew working. I learned how to work several pieces of machinery for the job (slicer, grill, register system, etc.); rudimentary management skills as a shift manager in a previous employment period with the company; how to cook; and how to maintain the core operations of a food place. Management left something to be desired; in both iterations of my working for Jersey Mike's, managers had difficulty appearing at the store location, responding to or addressing messages or calls regarding important store happenings or accidents (we did not simply call them for every small thing); showed obvious preference for one employee or another (the former being myself which I disputed, and during the second stint with the company a woman with which... I will not assume any connection); and overall did not keep the store in good shape, be it supply of product, correct product during orders, response to animal/pest problems, or treatment of other employees. My co-workers were in both iterations wonderfully friendly and helpful people, to both myself and customers. With few exceptions they had good work ethic, good teamwork, a good balance of hustle and openness to humor, and at least a small amount of camaraderie outside of the workplace.I had more than a few friends after leaving either locations. The hardest part of working at

Great for a first job, especially while in high school or college.
I worked for Jersey Mike's from the spring of my freshman year to the fall of my senior year in college. The pay is far greater than what you will find at other fast food-casual restaurants; Chipotle is the only one that comes close to Jersey Mike's. I started at 8.50/hr and left at 11.50/hr as a part-time employee and shift leader. From what I understand, most Jersey Mike's take advantage of credit card tips, so I made anywhere from 2 to 3 dollars an hour on top of the base 11.50/hr. Additionally, there were cash tips split at the end of every shift. So, I was bringing about 13-14/hr home. But of course, credit card tips will vary based on the socio-economic demographics of the store's location and the customer service skills of your team members. I was able to take time off as needed and cover others' shifts, so yes, the work hours were flexible. But I had a great manager and franchise owner (Chapel Hill, NC) that were incredibly considerate: We didn't have any ridiculous arbitrary rules (like no phones or limited bathroom breaks), my manager also considered my schooling to take precedence over work too. But you had to prove yourself at Jersey Mike's. If you are lazy or cut corners, your hours will be reduced and you will not get a raise. And here is a tip: If you feel like you deserve a raise - ASK! And if you don't get the raise, then ASK what you need to do to get that raise. It doesn't take much to work at Jersey Mike's - you need to be able to learn, and you will learn

A good high-school job
Work-life balance While management is good about working with those still in school about their schedules, they will often send their employees to go work at other locations on the days they’re supposed to have off, and then expect you to be happy about it. Pay & benefits The starting pay of $8.00 an hour is decent, but the only way to receive a raise is through a promotion which are only given out through favoritism. Job security and advancement Unless you’re a favorite of management, be prepared to stay a crew member no matter how good you are. Management At this location at least, the manager and assistant manager almost never contribute to the shift, preferring to stand in the back area and have their crew handle lunch and dinner rushes alone, only coming to help when they deem it necessary, and then going so far as to act as if the employees should’ve been able to handle it without them. Culture The bond of the employees at this location is similar to a class of school students who share a communal dislike of the teacher. The shared negative opinion of management gives the employees common ground to bond and talk over, however that isn’t to say it’s the only thing they talk about, as you will always find them cracking jokes with each other. Overall Overall, Jersey Mike’s is most suited for a high school student looking to earn some money after school. Management will tell you whatever you want to hear to get you to accept the job, then forget about you once you’re h

Not enough pay for losing your outside of work life
One bad crew member or leader will ruin your experience. Expect tons of drama. I’ve been with the company for awhile. Took a break, came back, expecting things to be better. Your personal life does not matter if it happens to be inconvenient to them. Poorly staffed locations will be the death of you. Over worked for little compensation. This is a job where you can thrive great if you’re on everyone’s good side and have some sort of title but even when you’re seasoned be prepared to be undermined, walked over, and get burnt out. I’m sure some locations are fine but with my experience at two of them I will never go back. It’s a franchise based operation, if you happen to find one that is ran good, you may just be good. The location I am referring to was not that. Constant need to be checking the work chat even on days off, drama on and off the clock, call out without a drs note, write up if you’re lucky. Could be suspended or fired. Didn’t finish a cleaning task, write up. In my opinion there is far too much bs to even consider jersey mikes as a workplace. You could not pay me enough to go back especially when there’s not really any benefits other than getting tips. It’s an ok job if you’re in high school but even the high schoolers I worked with were burnt out working 30+ hrs and feeling burnt out. The location I was at didn’t have breaks, you ate on the clock then back to work. If you have a set schedule you need tell them an hour before you actually have to be off because y

Shift Leader | Austin, TX | Apr 14, 2020
*Location Vary*; 5 things; Owner Problems Austin, Texas
1. Jersey Mike's is a good company to work for because it is an easy place to work. However, most of the benefits offered to you depend on the location you will work at because this is a franchised business. 2. At the location I worked at, the owners were very involved which is not a bad thing. As a Shift Leader, I was paid $10/hr+ shared tips/hr. The tips are what got me through, but tips are not guaranteed at every location. 3. This was the most stressful place to work. One of the owners is really rude and difficult to work with. I wasn't the only one who thought like this. All of their locations have a high turn over rate because of this lady. Everyone dreaded working with her, even people who were higher level than she. It would be a miracle, on any shift at all seven places, if someone wasn't offended by something she said or she wouldn't yell at you or a customer. On multiple occasions, I would go home and cry. If her husband and she are working the same shift, fully expect a fight and one of them leaving. 4. I quit because of her. I wanted to go to school so I sent her and my GM a formal email about asking to step down and be part-time. She threw a major fit about it. She said on different occasions, "Why do you need to go to school? You have a career here" and "It's just ACC. That's like high school so you shouldn't need so much time off" among other things. She gave me so much flap about it that we ended up having a verbal fight. I did not want to be unprofes
