Overall Reviews at Loblaw

Not a healthy work environment
My experience at Dominion was not a good one. The management was rude and unhelpful, they expected too much from young employees. They offered no help with scheduling around school and acted as if a part-time job at a grocery store was more important than receiving an education. The manager would make mistakes and blame them on the younger employees so he would not have to deal with the aftermath. Multiple occasions I had customers screaming at me to speak to the manager and he would never come when phoned and would hide away so he would not have to deal with them. The workers form clicks that is one thousand times worse than high school. The drama in the workplace is ridiculous and mainly comes from the older staff. Rumors are spread, fights are started, lies and said. I should not be scared to go to work in fear of being screamed at, especially not a part-time job.
Prosabsolutely nothing, they don't have any good benefits
ConsWorkers put you down, management makes you feel isolated

Loved the people and environment at Loblaw. However, was placed under a horrible director who did not have any involvement with the team and in tern had a team decentralized which lead to job loss and team destructing. Not sure how this person became a director as they did not do weekly follow ups as per other directors. Feel bad for her team when she comes back from Maternity leave.

Part time for student
Good part time job for a student. Learnings included customer service, health and safety standards, time management, food prep and clean up.
Management change caused issues within the store and department several co-workers left after one of the managers left. Causing the current store manager to take a hard line approach to the remaining staff.

My manager was very friendly and helpful not only to the staff but to our customers. Very nice employees around.
Working for Loblaw Optical has given me a new learning experience. The company employees were very friendly. My manager was very helpful and patient during my training period. She gave me a lot of room to work on my own independently but, always supportive in any way she can.

A different place to go to after compared to being school and in job hunting courses
It was way more different from my usual babysitting jobs i do. I learned a lot and found it was fun. The manager explained what needed to be done in a way that i could understand it.
ProsAlways learned something new
Conspeople would not show up for shifts

Excellent place to work with great associates
I would recommend working here. The associates are great and management is fantastic. It can be a little stressful depending on what you do, but management never expects you to do more than you possibly can.
