Overall Reviews at Publix

Fun work environment
Publix has a strong foundation. Sometimes it may be difficult to advance since the retention is so high. They really value the employees but it's a retail job. It's difficult for women with children.
Customer Service Associate / Cashier | Montgomery, AL | Mar 28, 2020
I give a 3 rating because of my experience company good too many unessary ways to complete tasks management sometimes unreasonable sickpay policy need
A great place to work they push to get more profit that a person too tired to finish workweek some of their methods doesn't make since I came with 35yrs groceryexperience wasn't pay my worth lower management reason corporate fair had an injury result of standing dept head didn't want to follow my Dr excuse or limits ended leave then retired.

Average overall
It depends on the management you have in your store. I worked with some lazy ones that wouldn't lift a finger to help out and others that will get into it working along side of you. You will have to move around to several stores in management and sometime drive an hour to work. Was not for me. They resist letting you stay in a job position too long even if you are doing well there. Pay can be good if you can get raises out of them. Rather stingy if you ask me. Probably because I made them look bad.
ProsWork is steady. Plenty to do
ConsCulture is rigid and cold.

One of the best retail companies to work for in pharamcy
Publix is well known for it's amazing benefits like the 401K plan and tuition reimbursement. You really can grow there from a bagger to a manager which I've seen. The benefits are amazing, but like most retail chains, in the pharmacy we were always shorthanded which effected customer service which Publix shines in! If it's your first job, it's a great way to learn excellent customer service skills which is becoming rare these days!
ConsAlways shorthanded

Fortune 500 for a reason
Publix is the leader in grocery and customer service in the southern US for a reason. Beautiful area to work in, competitive, and room to grow. Management is always hired from the inside out and there is always room to shift positions or be promoted should you pursue that path.
ProsLong Breaks, Good Culture
ConsManagement Disconnect, Favoritism

Very friendly place to work
Publix is always filled with welcoming staff. Even when you are in a bad mood, once you walk into that door, your mood changes from seeing everyone smiling and welcoming you with a hug or a wave.

If you like having something to do at all times, this is the job for you
The management was great overall at least for front service clerks. However the Starbucks kiosk was not paid attention to and was not well managed at all. If you are going to work there to be a front service clerk or cashier, I guarantee you will have no problems with management. It can get boring however. I solved this by interacting and talking with customers. Overall, it wasn't a terrible job, it just wasn't for me.

Good ole boys club
If your not apart of the good ole boys club you dont have a chance. You have to follow publix policy and what ever rules your current front line supervisor rules as well.

Questions And Answers about Publix

What would you suggest Publix management do to prevent others from leaving?
Asked Mar 14, 2017
Try to avoid favoritism, I felt awful when my manager told me to do something while their favorites got off easy. Also try to listen to constructive criticism from employees, and treat them more like humans instead of just workers.
Answered Mar 19, 2020
Publix employees deserve more work hours than 9 hours per week. Even after asking for more work hours numerous of times. I’m still receiving 9 hours per week. Very sad situation.
