Micromanagement mixed with a Union who simply doesn’t care…
between you the Union employee and the ones in management who are all non union employees and it always something that we’re not following correctly instead all the progress we made the company. It’s never good enough so you are definitely unappreciated and untrustworthy to the upper none union members who get to bend the rules for favoritism but treat others the opposite…. They wait for you to slip then watch you fall and don’t loose a second of sleep about it…. Was laid off for a full year as a nondestructive certified level one Ultrasonics testing operator and just because I struggled in my personal life and was on negative attendance steps I still had a chance to get that dropped off but they never gave me a call back so now they hire new people and I’m gonna be nothing at the job I loved and dedicated a ton of my overtime time into. Who’s thinking about applying here will regret it soon after seeing the big picture trust me they gave every employee a whole cupcake for going 2 full years without a lose time injury’s…. A cupcake!! I could go on but I’d rather not… best of luck… stay as far from the inspection department as possible….
ProsNone…. …. New boots twice a year
ConsShort breaks, micromanagement, poor union reps, poor union all around
Ran a cell of four to five machines at a time, some days with a partner others days alone.
I worked with a very nice crew of people which I got along with very well. We would start off every morning getting a list of the jobs w needed to get shipped out first and set the mchines up for the rest of the day. I was acutally offered a chance to go to sweden to learn programing for the up coming software we were getting for a laser marking machines. I also learned and re-organized gripper inventory and how to rebuild them from top to bottom. I could run two Camillas' which were laser marking machines using robotics they would laser etch and package the inserts, a Labella which with would lable the bar codes and part identifcation and info and push them into packing boxes that we would then lid and label with the outside barcodes. Also in our cells we hade a manual laser marking machine i could set up and this when i free time as well, and last we had an Else and we used that for traying inserts that needed to put into different trays. Management didn't really have a big part to with us unless something was wrong and then the department manager would step in. We hardly saw him other then those times. The most enjoyable part of my job was it would keep you busy if the work flow was up.
I worked for this company for almost 3 years. There was no room for advancement, they played little games if you were in the in crowd you were golden if you were not you were treated different! Being told more than once that my job was secure I was called into the office on my way to lunch and told that I was being laid off. For the next several months I have gotten calls for "help" from the new person assigned to my old job duties. She is doing the work of 2 people and being paid for only one, they treat her like dirt which is why I have no issue helping her, but it pains me to help this company. Fair Play is one of their core values, they don't know the meaning of it!
The old service manager was a total jerk to work with, he was a tyrant but got away with it because his dad's friend was one of the big bosses, his dad also started Tamrock which was bought out by Sandvik, talk about job security.
There is a new service manager of less than one year who has lost 4 field service techs, does not seem like many? He only had 8 to start with. He has an immediate family member working under him and favors this person above all others. I liked my boss as a person he is great, as a manager he is terrible!
My typical day at work starts off with receiving turnover when my shift begins. I run 5 Fette presses from Sweden making carbide/cobalt inserts as a machining tool. I have learned and advanced my experience using CNC systems as well as learned new and challenging properties of metal. The hardest part of my job is dealing with co-workers who care too little about their job. I am enthusiastic about what I do. I love the work, but dis-like the environment I am currently in. The political side of my current job is so cumbersome. I have never had a job with so much extra work on the people/interpersonal skills. I simply wish people would leave their job as it was found, put a little more effort into their work and try and keep the process of production flowing rather than worrying about their part only. Too often I see employees look at a production unit as an 8 or 10 hour shift/segment only, leaving much work to be done after they are gone. The most enjoyable part of my job is encountering new challenges, having metals react differently within process, and being part of a greater "good" in the American system of Industry.
Would avoid ADC unless you've got no other options
The company as a whole is not a terrible place to work; the warehouse (Sandvik Americas Distribution Center, or, Sandvik ADC) is not a great place to work.
There has been awful turmoil at the leadership level for a number of years, mandatory changes to shift schedules, favoritism and nepotism and incompetence across all levels of the white collar work force.
You will not know what time you'll be off until, if you're lucky, an hour before, and often you won't know at all until it's called over the intercom. You will work mandatpry overtime most days, and depending on the time of year you will frequently be forced to work weekends.
If you struggle in any aspect of your job you will not get help. If you have issues personally or professionally with a co-worker, a work process, or equipment you will be heard but not listened to.
There is a chance this could change but the trend has been downward for years now. I would start my search somewhere else first and only circle back if I was desperate.
Overall good company to work for if you need a job, not a career.
If you need a job, it's a good place to work. If you're looking for some place you can advance, not good at all. It takes way too long to move up in the warehouse/company, if you even ever get the opportunity. And if you do, most likely you'll be stuck in that position till the end of time. Everybody starts on second shift, and it's almost impossible to get moved to an earlier shift. They try to do the most amount of work with the least amount of employees, so the workload gets piled on those who show higher capabilities. Hours for mid and second shift are always uncertain, so you never know when your shift will end.
ProsOverall a good company to work for, ie. good benefits, vacation time, job security, Job is fairly easy to learn and do on a daily basis, Very safe and mostly clean environment to work in.
ConsShift start times always changing, mid and second shift never have a set out time, Eight hour work days rarely occur, Managers have little to no interaction with employees.
I worked at the Bethel CT location. Tempature inside building is 10 degrees hotter inside then outside, so during summer your working in 100 degree temps. Wouldnt be so bad if manager didn't yell at my face and give me a hard time about drinking water. Almost was crippled on the job due to someone swapping out a part with a homemade part. Bathrooms are always jammed. Feces on the bathroom walls every now and then. Took 2 months for them to replace the microwave in lunch room.
Supervisor wanted me to learn system but the manager repeatedly refused to teach me system. When i brought this to the supervisor, he became defensive at the mere suggestion his manager wasnt doing his job. He offered no solutions. Told HR, they seemed more intrested in me leaving right away then the issue i was dealing with.
I don't think this is a good place to work but if you don't believe me, by all means look for yourself.
ProsHandful of really good people, free ice
Cons100 degrees in summer, poor manegment, unsafe work conditions
I liked my job at Sandvik but management was very poor. There was a buddy system and if you are in the group you can do no wrong. After much frustration I called HR and got fired for doing so. They said that was not the reason but it was. I was told I was fired for not calling my manager back in a timely fashion. I called him a few hours later. During the same time our service manager did not call a customer back for over a week, which is typical for him. My manager became angry because he wanted me to visit customer the service manager blew off which I did. I was there the next day in the afternoon but he wanted me there in the morning. The service manager who created the entire situation is still there and continuing the same actions. He gets away with it because he is part of the boys club created by management. I'm now faced with loosing everything because of the lack of response from the service manager.
Terrible work environment, lying and backstabbing full-time employees
I was a temporary emplyee through an agency. I was there for a month and then they let me go. An unknown employee made up lies avout ne to management and since I was a temp worker they let me go. They claimed I was recording other employees while at work and this was absolutely untrue. I never talked to anyone but gossip by coworkers made me realize the culture there is terrible. People gossip about each other often. Employees take long breaks and lunches then do very little work while there. The managers let these same people come in for over time during the week and over the weekends. These same employees sit on their phone and talk all day about their personal life while anticipating that their next pay check is going to be double what it usually is because of OT.
Pros8 hour work day with paid lunch breaks.
ConsGossip, backstabbing, boring and unrewarding work.
A typical day at work, 3 shifts start,6 am,8 am,10 am. I start at 8 am a routine pre-check of machinery i always go through,adhering company's strict H&S procedures.Greet'n to all or who want to be, straight to work there's orders to be pack(orders are categories in 3's Red=emergency,Yellow=priority,White=replenishment orders for other branch countrywide to international, servicesing to mining industries, some need to be machanically pick (heavy parts) that too heavy to lift, must be checked for the quantity, and inspect for damages such rusty, re-painted.Packing in to crates different size pallets (custom made) to save costs.
I have my 1st break at 9:20 breakfast time, energy,energy...my typical breakfast - puff quinoa,spelt,amaranth,cranberrys,gorjberrys with almond milk. quinoa or spelt flakes boil with dates and figs, almond milk.
Pacing is important, there's cut of time all trucks must be loaded by 18:00 for order's to get to customer's the next day(management procedures).Lunch at 13:00 then is full on, to do as much as possible.There's the odd day of attending H&S training, or meeting.
The Management side if things - this always the interesting parts of the work place.Sudden introduction of KPI, employing relatives or partners of employee (from the office) in the company into position that matters.
My co-workers, everyday people just working for living.Got a lots a unexpected hugs on the day of my resignations (that's the aussie spirit)
My typical day at work starts off with following up with suppliers on the progress they have made on the day before, sometimes on the week before which ever have the highest priority. Getting the relevant Project documents in on time and getting them approved.
I take part in Project Meetings to provide the information I have received from the suppliers to the Project team.
I have learned a lot from the industry and the requirements of getting the work done in the best quality, quantity and lead times to our clients. I have gained a lot more self motivation, discipline and confidence in my work and in myself as a person to deal with the stress of the work and getting the job done.
Management has always been a part of what I do at the company as they have contributed to my success at Sandvik Mining Systems.
Wherever any issues arise, Management could always be approached for guidance and assistance in getting a resolution.
Our workplace culture involves everyone from the cleaning staff to top management and everyone gets treated with dignity and respect on the same level. We are all one Sandvik and moving forward as a team.
The hardest part of the job is to get the suppliers to actually stick to their promised and committed delivery dates to the Project Sites.
This has a huge impact on the Project and always have a cost implication.
The most enjoyable part of the job is to interact with different people on different levels and to get to know them.
- Elaboração de processos de produção;
- Planejamento das ordens de produção;
- Cotação para o mercado local e exportação;
- Controle do estoque de matéria prima e produtos semi-acabados;
- Reunião com a produção;
- Análise dos indicadores;
- Contato com os fornecedores;
- Atualização dos prazos para o setor de vendas;
- Importação e/ou compras de material para a produção;
- Acompanhamento das filas e carga máquina da produção;

What is the interview process like at Sandvik?
Asked Jun 20, 2016
My experience was probably a bit different than most. I was asked to meet with 4 VPs because my skills could be utilized by all 4 departments. I met with all of them via a zoom call. Not one of them turned their cameras on, which made it difficult to determine who was who. I made the request to meet with them on-site to see their facility and get a feel for the environment. It took 2 weeks to schedule that. The facility was 4 hours away from where I lived, no expense coverage was offered. When I arrived on-site, I was interviewed by 4 different managers (VPs nowhere to be found), and not one of them knew what they were interviewing me for. Very disorganized company!

You seat with HR the Coordinator of the IT Service Desk and the US IT Manager. Very relax and lay back it almost feels like a friendly talk more than an interview. The only thing the US Manager is no longer there and the Coordinator was let go and the IT HR Manager was also let go so don't know how the interview is now.
