I want to love Shipt, but they make it hard.
The concept is good, but it just doesn't work for me. For starters, I regularly have problems with the app. This has caused me to get a late marking for a job that I completed on time and that I marked as delivered. It has also caused me to be sent jobs for a time I wasn't on the schedule that I then had to turn down, which caused another mark. I've had them send me a large order for a time that I already have a large order scheduled and get marked for not accepting that second order. But they clearly state that they won't send you an order for a time that you're already booked. I once shopped an entire order and was picking up the last few items when the order disappeared. When I called the help line, all they could tell me is that they no longer saw the order. That was wasted time and gas and I wasn't paid anything for that order. I have never made $22/hr on just the order. I have made it with tips, when I get tips, but by the time you factor in gas that you spent, it's far less than $22/hr. Also, I can't figure out how they factor the pay. I have shopped orders and delivered within the first five minutes of the delivery window only to get paid the lowest amount in the range. Probably my biggest issue is that you don't know exactly where the order is until you accept it. Even when you choose the "zone" that you want to be in, you could be anywhere in that zone. Depending on the city, that zone can be quite large. This has led to me having a large order in on...more

$22 per hr. is a stretch, dishonest about shops, no room for growth
Jobs (called shops) are not fairly appropriated. You are told you will be offered a shop and you will have 60 secs (very dangerous when driving, mind you) to accept. If you do not, it will go out to the next tier and the next and so on until someone accepts it. What they do not tell you is that they do not offer the shop to ONLY YOU as they lead you to believe. They offer it to you ENTIRE tier at one time. There are times I've gotten buzzed opened the app in seconds and the offer was already claimed (which the app will tell you). So you do not always have a fair shot at getting shops. I've asked about it I'm given the run around every single time. Also, you are told shops are given to senior shoppers first but that they match shoppers with customers whom they rate and speak highly of to maintain report. You're also told that having a high rating will get you more shops. What they don't tell you is that ALL shops go to senior shoppers first. They may have been offered 7 in 1 hour and will continue to get offers. If they take themselves off the schedule after they get a shop, it will trickle down but most won't as to maximize their profits. It's a numbers game. If you're late because you took too many shops, it doesn't matter if your next 10 are on time. So they get the pay and even out their balance by skirting the system. If you have a perfect or even near perfect rating and have been matched with customers who love you and ask for you if it gets slow, that is not honored...more

Has its quirks but overall a decent gig
I've been Shipt shopping for a few months now, almost a half a thousand shops in and I have to say, for the most part, I'd give it a pretty positive endorsement. However, as always there are a few things which could be worked out to the benefit of everyone involved. Shipt clearly is having their cake and eating it too. This is to be expected. Platforms which allow you to compose your own hours entirely and offer exceptional levels of freedom are always going to offer substantially less in compensation. Without tips, Shipt is not a viable option to sustain any type of life other than supplemental income. It's quite simple, if people place orders they then distribute them based on the scheduled shoppers via a rating system from customers and how many shops you have conducted. For the first two weeks, you will be placed near the top of the food chain to build a base. One of my biggest issues with the Shipt platform is this customer based rating system which is deeply flawed. First, it leaves a significant path to discrimination based on gender, race, appearance, etc. (as a male, I have undoubtedly received poor ratings based on my gender), an issue by which many studies have been conducted using data retrieved from Uber. Also, you are at the perils of the store and the customer combined, yes you can do everything perfectly and still get a bad review if a store is out of stock of a few items and hinders their experience. Although my rating is quite decent, it ir...more

Shipt Life
I have been doing Shipt for two years now, so I started in 2016 and it is now 2018. I love the flexibility that working with Shipt allows me with my busy family life. Your funds are absolutely guaranteed as long as you work. I love the multiple streams of income. So when you work and when you refer people you receive compensation. I have made excellent added income from referring Shipt shoppers and customers to Shipt. I love that the company appreciates their employees, and what I mean by that is when you do your job and you work hard they noticed your hard work and your loyalty. They send you recognition and gifts, they also reward you with personalized Shipt items when you’ve done so many shops. Once I completed 500 shops I received my Shipt credit card with my name on it. So your hard work does not go unnoticed nor does your loyalty to do your job the best of your ability and give great service as you are representing Shipt. I would love a better way of tracking referral compensation, But as long as you keep track of it you will be compensated. I love the diversity that Shipt employs with their company. I love the customers that I service and have developed great relationships with. Whenever I take time off from work my customers definitely noticed my absence, which is pretty awesome. I love the self scheduling because when I need time off I take it and when I’m ready to come back to work I just put myself on the schedule. I recently took four months off and when ...more

Independent contractors and can be super slow
Your an independent contractor so the best thing about the job is you dont have to wear a unifrom. No you don't have to wear the green shipt shirt. This is not a job you can get fulltime or even part time work. Its not consistant. You could be on schedule all day and not get any orders but have to be available incase an order does come through. Orders average about $6-$8 not including tips. Each order takes an average of at least an hour. Sometimes long if you have a customer who adds items or wants you to contact them about everything. If they add alot of times then you could miss your delivery time ans your stats will drop. The only way to make more money is if a metro order has promos and that means you have less time to shop it. The Shopper App is a mess the product descriptions and picture are almost always wrong. It can be a mess. You'll have to reboot your app alot. Also customers can cancel orders and you wont get paid for thosw orders unless you are shopping them. After you shop an order while your in the store you'll take a picture of the reciept and enter it into the app. Then theyll process the order in the app and charge the customer. If the order doesnt go through then you have to return all the products to the store or if ypu get to a customers hoem and they dont answer you have to return the items to the store. You'll get paid the $6-$8 still but now you have spent like 2-3 hrs on the order and may efdect other orders you have then youll have to cancel those...more

Flexibility is the only perk
I started Shipt shopping and really liked it to begin with. The biggest problem is the rating system. I am not against the customers being able to rate you, but you have absolutely no feedback on what you did wrong. They say their shopper coaches will be able to let you know more, but they can't really tell you anything. They will probably respond to this with that same copy and pasted response you see on all of these reviews. You simply cannot control what people will rate you- even when you've done everything well. They could literally knock you down on rating for not liking the car you drive or the accent you have or whatever. The rating is what controls your job security so your job security is in the hands of people who are well off and lazy enough to have their groceries delivered(not the most empathetic of individuals). I have had orders where I have not had to substitute anything, communicated with the customer through the whole shop, dropped off in the first fifteen minutes of the delivery window, had her check over their order, and was then given 4 stars. Why? I will never know. As a contractor you should have a right to know what went wrong and have the ability to try to make it right. I have just fallen to a 4.6(4.7 is what you are expected to maintain) so I'm waiting to be canned. When I first started I read some of these reviews and naively assumed that the people complaining about the ratings were just bad shoppers, but I should have listened. My first week...more

Do not buy into the "average hourly wages" - wildly variable, unreliable
Remember this: the statistics you see everywhere, saying the average Shipt shopper makes over $20 an hour (and most make well over that!), as your "potential" hourly wages is based on their initial rollouts in major, large, and pricey places to live - where prices are high, thus percentages of the base pay are higher, and that pumps up the wage to a falsely inflated number. If you live in regular ol' America, USA, your base wage isn't going to break minimum wage levels, and you WILL need to hope, pray, and hustle that whoever you are shopping and delivering for believe in tips, and understands that a MAJOR part of your wage is indeed, based on the tips you earn from customers. For good or bad, that is the case. And for bad or otherwise, do your homework, read up, and see how many people out there have some real disdain for Shipt, Instacart, and other luxury service delivery providers, believing you don't need, nor deserve, or even warrant a tip - because you're being "paid enough" by Shipt (or fill in the blank with whatever shared-econ business you're thinking of working for). This isn't about hustle. And it's not about Shipt being a bad idea. It's about the cultural perception that even after you've carrier 4 cases of Coke, and three 24 bottle packs of water into their home, somehow you still don't warrant anything more than a "see ya!" and be on your way. Part of this isn't just the customer base - a big part of this is the wishy-washy way in which Shipt has positioned ti...more

You end up making less than minimum wage
I tried it when the company entered my county. The background check was more rigorous than any transportation companies. Getting the shirt and card took additional 2 weeks. After 3+ months now, I can finally review this to be the lowest paying gig. First, you have to watch the app consistently and continuously. You're bidding against your neighbors who work the same routes, so you want to beat them to get the gig. If you beat them and bid right away, then you'll get literally $7 for work that takes over 45 minutes. This doesn't pay for your drive to & from, delivery time, wait time (if client is not around), or the hassle to deliver into complexes that's hard to enter. Second, I found they don't pay what is posted. If it says a gig is $14-$17, chances are you'll get the $14. No one knows how to get the higher range, and no one at the company will explain. Third, the support is iffy. When I had a problem, I can't call anyone -- the texting doesn't get responses immediately, while I am waiting at the market. When I had a problem with a delivery (people don't answer the door), I can't call the customer. You can only text the spoofed number that shows up on that order -- when the customer is not texting back, you'll stand there waiting with bags full of frozen things that begin to melt. Then the customer will complain because of frozen things no longer frozen and give you a 1 Star rating!!!!!!!!! This company needs to learn from Uber to facilitate calling ...more

The advertisements are wrong but terrible reviews of Shipt are worse
You can't go into Shipt expecting to work 40 hours a week and have this large career filled with shops every hour, it just won't happen. If this is the type of job you are looking for, go somewhere else. I am a college student with a full-time job and another part-time job, for me, Shipt is something to fill in the cracks in my schedule. I do about a shop a day and a couple when I have a free day and it pays fairly well. I can't guarantee that you will see the $25/hr pay that they say but it does happen sometimes. I started out small with only $50 orders which made me about $9 for about 1 hours of my time, but the thing many other reviewers don't factor in is the tip. Usually, the payment from Shipt is around 10-20% but in my experiences, the tip is around the same so I actually made about $18 on a small $50 order that took me maximum 1 hours to do. As you get better and get to know your stores, you can really grow into a shopper that can make around $20/hr. I stick to one store, so I don't have to drive all around, minimizing the wear on my car and gas, and tend to grab orders where the estimated pay is around $20. Then the tip will be around $15-$20 in my area and in 1.5 hours of time, you made $40. I like to space my shops around to decrease my stress. Some shoppers are upset that they get $5 shops but that's because they probably don't have good reviews so they get the lower valued orders and you are not forced to take any order, if you don't think it pays enough, don'...more

Questions And Answers about Shipt

If you were to leave Shipt, what would be the reason?

I feel taken advantage of bu this company. Going out in the snow, going out of my way to make customers happy amd get what they need in this covid19 pandemic. They give you 9 dollars seriously? No tip, not even encouraged to tip. When the app malfunctions you cant even talk to customer service. You have to pretend to be a customer. Then they tell you to send an email. I have literally cried after doing deliveries

My friend is very interested but she is vegetarian and even walking past the meat department is difficult for her. Is there any way she could only accept orders from vegetarians? Or is there some other way it could be worked out such as calling ahead for for the meat department to select items and put them in a bag for her? Or she could perhaps arrange to meet at the store with another Shipt person and could pay them to select the meat and put it in a bag?

I would say most of my orders are delivery only and you can decide which orders you take. So if she were to only take deliveries she wouldn’t have to bag any meat or look at it or even know it’s there 🤷🏼‍♀️
