Very poor
Underpaid and mistreated by Managers who are overpaid and not worthy of their position due to their unprofessional attitude. Forced to sell £1 bags and star products if we wanted better pay, no guaranteed hours

Unreliable Company
Cancelling shifts and not introduced to any members of the team at all. Often left on your own to deal with things. I was often running out of things to do and continually just wanted to be home.

Not the Best
As a student, I worked 4-hour shifts on both days of the weekend for Sports Direct, on a minimum wage 0-hours contract, which is both confusing and unideal as you have no idea when your horus will be. Typically, I would get to work, put all my stuff away in the back, then immediately sign in on the payroll app at the till. Following that I had to ask my managers what I will be doing for the day, and do what they say for the following 4 hours. In this job, I learned how to cope with stress, how to communicate effectively with customers, and the punctuality required for the standard working retail life. However, I also learned that this was not the job for me. Sometimes I lacked the skills of retaining stress with myself whilst dealing with customers and found myself in situations with the managers that I could not do anything about. In Weymouth Sports Direct, the management there are very friendly, although they would like you to cut straight to the job with no messing around, which was difficult for me because I would want to joke sometimes, and sometimes it would not be the most appropiate time to do so. In the shop, the other Casual Retail Assistants who work there are extremely friendly and useful to have by your side, making working life a lot easier. however when the shop gets busier, typically everyone's moods become stricter because they're all having to deal with about 6 customers at one time, which in some cases could be a horror show. that is the most hardest part o...more
ProsYou could not work specific hours if you don't want to.
ConsNo breaks, unrelaxing environment when busy, you cannot leave the shop floor during the set hours for a drink or the toilet.

Sport direct
Sport direct wasn't the best place to work because it got very busy at all the time but we all worked at as a team to help each other out. I've learnt how to use tills and help customer's to show them the sections for shoes, clothes and equipment's. There was a lot of different cultures coming in to the shop and it was very nice meeting new people and learning new languages. The hardest part of the job was tidy up and making sure everything was organised. The most enjoyable part of the job was finishing the work shift.

Fun place to work.
Starting of in sports direct is pretty bad but once you get people within your team that you can have a joke with and aim for goals together then thats mainly what the sales are about and battling each other to get the highest KPI of the week or month. Very good place to learn the ways of sales. Even if you are just selling plastic bags for £1 and insoles for £5
Pros0 hour contract don't have to accept work if I didn't want to
ConsLow pay but then again I was 16-17

Pros20% discount including family and friends, flexible with hours.
ConsZero contract hour job so could end up with no hours in one week

Questions And Answers about Sports Direct

How did you feel about telling people you worked at Sports Direct?
Asked Jun 29, 2017
At the start i felt good about it as it was my first ever proper job. However, with the media impact the company has had over the years, my friends and family were all telling me to work elsewhere as i could find a job with better pay and better accessibility. Whilst i was working there, i started fsairly confident, but my confidence was lost by the time of my last shift because I started at the company's peak time of the year and so i immediately had to deal with 5/6 customers at once.
