I successfully worked for Upwork for three years. They instituted a new policy May, 2019 that required applicants to pay to apply for jobs. I cannot afford this and terminated my account with the company.

Id recommend to anyone wanting to make some extra money, its all contract work and pretty flexible. You are paid per job or per hour, if you do a good job you are often rehired, Its nice to work from home and be able to transfer funds direct to my bank.

Freelance Agency for Independent Workers
Working for Upwork is a hustle. You need to constantly advertise your skills, put yourself out there, and try to attract client attention. It's also really important to make sure your employers write reviews about job performance. Upwork takes a chunk out of each paycheck for their fees, so setting your price is a delicate balance of charging a reasonable fee for employers while also meeting your own financial needs. Upwork is also a host organization and provides no benefits or protection for freelancers, so you'll need to be careful about who you work for and protecting your privacy.
