Overview

The White Sands Complex Operations Department in Las Cruces, NM has an opening for an Operations Supervisor (OS). Operating here are two functionally identical satellite ground terminals: the White Sands Ground Terminal and the second TDRSS Ground Terminal.

These two terminals ensure uninterrupted communications between various ground stations, NASA’s orbiting fleet of Tracking and Data Relay Satellites (TDRS), customer spacecraft (satellites), and the computer systems that support such spacecraft. The WSC also serves as an interface for distributing satellite data to control centers and scientists who then use the daily influx of data to expand our ever growing knowledge of the earth and the universe.

Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll be responsible for the supervision of assigned operations personnel, oversees and coordinates all administrative/operational aspects for his or her assigned crew (14-16 people). The WSC OS is the focal point during TDRS or ground equipment anomalies and responsible for providing timely reporting and status to site management as well as government representatives and the Space Network (SN) customer community. Additional duties are :

Provide leadership and oversight for all personnel assigned.

Ensure compliance with local and corporate policies, procedures and established Union Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Collaborate with members from WSC engineering departments to ensure safety of Space Network assets.

Develop mechanisms for monitoring operations proficiency and for intervention and problem solving when required.

Ensure all local, corporate, and government required training is current.

Work in conjunction with the training department to ensure all controllers maintain required proficiency in their assigned positions.

Demonstrate a strong leadership presence during anomaly resolution and ensures effective communications are utilized among crew members.

Provide accurate and timely communication to company and government management of all significant TDRS, ground or customer related issues.

Generate and/or maintain pertinent documentation such as discrepancy reports, daily reporting summaries and significant event reporting.

Develop and provides briefings to NASA and Contractor management.

Subject to working rotating shifts, weekends and holidays on a rotational basis as a part of normal shift scheduling.

Qualifications

REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s Degree or 6+ years directly related experience.

6+ years of experience leading teams, improving capabilities and redesigning processes.

PREFFERRED:
Active SECRET security clearance.

Be motivated, safety minded, and demonstrate leadership abilities.

Possess the ability to work well under pressure.

Prior leadership experience with government, military or industry.

Strong people management, negotiation and presentation skills.

Strong skills with Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint and Excel).

Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.

SECURITY CLEARANCE:
This position requires the candidate to be able to obtain a secret security clearance. In order to obtain a clearance you need to be a US Citizen and show proof of citizenship.
