JOB TITLE: Health Center Receptionist


REPORTS TO : Health Information Manager

DEPARTMENT: Health Center


The Unit Clerk is responsible for assisting the nursing staff with clerical duties and communication with direction from the Health Information Manager; updates the computer system with essential information. Maintaining and monitoring supplies required to operate the department and inform Manager.


  • Answers incoming calls, takes messages and relays messages using appropriate equipment. Proper office etiquette is answer on second ring. “Good morning, afternoon, evening, Sierra Winds, this is _____, how may I help you?”
  • Greets and directs families, visitors and other individuals. Answers basic questions or refers individuals to Charge Nurse.
  • Assists in thinning and maintaining charts, as well as assembling new charts as needed and entering new admit information (face sheet) into computer as needed.
  • Assists with clerical functions, computer data entry, and follow-ups involved in health care admissions, discharges, and room transfers.
  • Maintains files/drawers, keeping documentation up to date.
  • Maintains an orderly, safe and sanitary work stations and pantry.
  • Assists supervisor with statistical compilation of data, reports and information as required.
  • Maintains complete confidentiality regarding resident records.
  • Schedules/fills out requisitions for resident labs and X-rays.
  • Orders unit supplies as needed and directed by supervisor.
  • Performs specific work duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.


  • Attends in-service training and education sessions as assigned by supervisor.
  • Posts/removes memos as required. Maintains nursing employee lounge bulletin board in a neat and orderly manner.
  • Assists with the fax and copy machines as needed.
  • Maintains nursing station with required nursing forms.


  • High school graduate. Ability to communicate effectively in English and perform simple arithmetic.
  • One year experience in Microsoft Office.
  • One year experience in a health care setting preferably in long term care and knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Requires good judgement to plan, perform and set-up sequences within standard procedures. Requires analysis of facts and information to take action following established guidelines.


  • Normally works in well lighted, comfortable surroundings.
  • Must be able to concentrate with frequent interruptions.
  • Must be able to sit for up to ninety percent (90%) of the work day.
  • Must have manual dexterity for typing and filing.
  • Occasional walking; frequent bending, reaching and stooping.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to fifty (50) lbs. independently.
  • May be exposed to communicable diseases including the HIV and HBV viruses, unpleasant odors, and combative behavior.

Days: Saturday and Sunday

Hours: 8am-8pm
