The Department of Pediatrics is seeking a Laboratory Research Technician for the Division of Neonatology. Under direct supervision, this position performs routine bioanalytical, chemical, or physical tests according to standardized processes, and performs other laboratory activities and maintenance related to research into brain development and effects of environmental toxins.

This is a contractual position and offers a generous benefits package that includes 10 vacation days, 11 personal and holidays, 5 sick days; comprehensive health insurance and supplemental retirement options; and limited tuition remission for employees enrolled at UMB.

Primary Duties
Performs routine biological procedures such as gel electrophoresis, blotting, chromatography, and DNA extractions; chemical procedures such as simple synthesis, or product isolation, or biophysical procedures such as optical and kinetics measurements.
Prepares chemical solutions, media, reagents, stains, and buffers. Assists in conducting routine assays such as enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA) and complement fixations.
Assists with sterile procedures.
Performs clinical processes such as cell or tissue cultures. Collects, prepares, and processes specimens.
Develops and prints film detailing biochemical or other analyses.
Assists in conducting research on current scientific literature using computerized applications.
Collects, records, and enters research data.
Performs wipe tests, general housekeeping of laboratory, and operation of laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, meters, microscopes, incubators, autoclaves, spectrometers, and gas and liquid chromatographs. Maintains chemicals and equipment inventory.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in a biological or chemical science.

Salary Range: $38,204 - $39,000
