Summary: The Director assesses, plans, implements and evaluates delivery of patient care on the Med Surg and ICU Nursing Units. The Director provides administrative direction to development and evaluation of all nursing personnel; and maintains operational aspects of the patient care unit in collaboration with administrative support services. Director acts as a liaison between the nursing units and other departments, physicians, administration, hospital patients, guest and the community. Director is responsible for capital budgets, supplies, general policies and compliance with accrediting agencies. Further, contributes to nursing and objectives, education efforts and research efforts.
Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. Bachelor of Science degree preferred, not required.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years Nursing experience (Med/Surg experience preferred) and a minimum of 2 years nursing management . Knowledge and ability to interpret basic arrhythmias, ACLS, PALS certified. Demonstrates leadership skills of critical thinking, conflict management negotiation, and personnel development.
Licensure, Registration, Certification: Current Missouri State RN licensure in good standing.
Mental/Physical Requirements: (may be met with or without reasonable accommodations): Considerable mental concentration on variable projects. Standing, walking, sitting, lifting, turning carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching are required. Must be able to lift 20 lbs. from floor and from overhead, 40 lbs. from waist height and be able to handle, move or transfer articles of 100 lbs. regularly and over 100 lbs. periodically; in concert with other employees/person(s) and/or lifting device; exercise good body mechanics in execution of essential duties, including appropriate back and neck posture. Utilize standard office, clinical or environmental tools such as computers, calculators, copies, telemetry equipment, etc. Must be available to take call for the Med/Surg Department and must be available for any problems or issues that may arise. Will take call every fourth weekend of the month for all departments and will resolve any issues that may arise.
Working Conditions: Excellent verbal and written communication skill required. General clinical knowledge in all areas of department. General knowledge of computers for spreadsheets computations and word processing. Strong financial management and public relations skills necessary. Ability to work in a multidisciplinary setting.
