Our Guest Services Associates at the Aquarium of the Pacific are the first to greet our guests (sometimes up to 10,000 in a single day), and the last to say good-bye as our guests depart. Each Guest Services Associate plays a key role in helping the Aquarium provide meaningful experiences that will help our guests think about the way they interact with the natural world around them.
For the upcoming Winter Season and into 2019, we are looking for qualified individuals who thrive on delivering proactive, outstanding customer service to the thousands of people who will be visiting the Aquarium over the holidays with their families and friends.
The Guest Services Associate’s Responsibilities Include:
Delivering high quality, proactive, efficient, friendly service that exceeds our guests’ expectations
Working in a variety of locations and positions throughout the Aquarium including, but not limited to, the Plaza (Bus Jumping, greeting Guests, and Will Call), in the Great Hall (at Ocean Theater and Ocean Science Center, the Information Desk, the Main Doors and Exit, and as Costume Characters), at the Lorikeet Forest (greeting Guests and selling Nectar), and in the Ticket Office
Greeting school buses (aka ”bus jumping”) and coordinating school arrivals and lunches
Managing ticket and theater lines effectively
Answering general questions from guests about the Aquarium, its exhibits, programs, and special events and effectively and proactively communicate this information to guests.
Welcoming guests to various exhibits and delivering short explanations about the exhibit experience.
Assisting with day and night special events
Interacting with guests while wearing an Aquarium costume ( Like the shark or sting ray!)
Selling tickets and Aquarium membership packages.
During the rare ‘downtime’, ensuring that work areas are restocked with supplies, tidy and guest-ready.
Demonstrating initiative and enthusiasm to create exceptional guest experiences.
Finding opportunities to interact with our visitors in a way that causes them to feel like the Aquarium hires the nicest most helpful people there are.
Must be at least 16 years of age
Available to work a flexible schedule during hours of operation (9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. every day; late nights until 9:00 p.m.) which often include weekdays, evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
A true enjoyment of interacting with people– while consistently demonstrating excellent listening skills, ability to sustain eye contact with a smile, ability to speak clearly– all with body language and posture that conveys friendliness and a willingness to help.
Previous customer service experience is preferred but not required. An aptitude for excellent guest services is a must.
Comfort and ability in addressing groups of people numbering as few as 2 or as large as 300.
Able to work in a noisy and sometimes chaotic environment and be flexible under a variety of circumstances.
Punctual, neat and accurate in work habits; precise and detail-oriented.
Ability to unplug from one’s cell phone while on duty.
Possesses a friendly, outgoing, team oriented, upbeat and enthusiastic demeanor.
Ability to be professional and courteous with general public, educational community, co-workers.
Ability to exercise good judgment
Ability to work well in a team environment.
Reliable and a self-starter
Computer proficiency required.
Knowledge and Skills
Effective communication skills
Basic data entry skills
Basic math skills
Bi-lingual a plus!
Ability to sit, stand and walk for long periods of time
Ability to balance, bend, squat, climb, kneel, crawl, twist
Ability to lift and carry up to 0-50lbs
Ability to pull and push up to 0-100lbs
Full functional range of motion in all major body joints from reaching, twisting, bending, simple and power gripping, fine and gross motor skills
Ability to wear a character costume for 15-20 minutes at a time while interacting with Guests
Able to move from place to place which may include standing and/or walking for extended periods of time
Exposure to various in temperature, humidity or wetness
Wet, dirty, uneven surfaces and walkways
Exposure to confined spaces
