Our Opportunity:
The Digital Messaging Technology team is looking for an application architect/Tech Lead who is a highly-motivated, detail-oriented, self-driven individual contributor, with strong and proven skills in application design, systems analysis and leading complex and cross organizational efforts.You will be part of a larger group called Cross Enterprise Services (CES) which is focused on delivering consistent, enterprise quality and highly performant shared services for all of Schwab’s systems as building blocks for outstanding end-user experiences.CES offers a wide range of technology opportunities for the best and brightest people to grow and demonstrate their skills.

What you’ll do:
This is a leadership role, and although you will not have direct reports, as an application architect you will be looked to as a technical leader to gather analysis, drive discussion and standards, set technical direction and provide designs to support the technical team’s work product. You will also be a conduit between application teams and enterprise architecture; providing local direction based on enterprise standards and also giving feedback to set enterprise standards.

You will engage with business partners, Agile teams, technical analysts, project managers, domain partners as well as cross-enterprise managers and officers. You will probe, understand and contribute to technical direction and design; and proactively support the technical team in delivering their products.

Your work product will include technical requirements, systems analysis documents, functional and non-functional use cases and software architecture artifacts (e.g. logical and physical system diagrams). You will work energetically with business and technical partners to ensure systems’ design aim to meet both current and future plans in a sustainable manner. You will analyze business needs to help ensure the team meets business objectives.

Collaborate to determine functional and non-functional requirements for new and updated applications
Create and/or help implement a technical vision and multi-year plan in line with organization goals with a focus on application modernization and transforming older infrastructure functionality to modern SAAS systems
Develop high-level product specifications with attention to system integration and feasibility
Use tools, methodologies and architectural patterns to achieve progress in developing new applications and migration of legacy of software to new infrastructure
Collaboratively set and communicate technical standards as needed for the technical team
Oversee progress of development team to ensure consistency with initial design
Provide technical guidance and coaching to developers and engineers
Ensure software meets all requirements of quality, security, modifiability, extensibility, etc.
Identify ways to increase employee knowledge and skills to support future growth
Provide business architecture and systems processing guidance
Conduct research and evaluate new technology tools and training which can help with implementing our technical roadmap

What you have:
Proven experience as software architect
Experience in software development and coding in various languages (C#, .NET, Java etc.)
Excellent knowledge of software and application design and architecture
Excellent knowledge of UML and other modeling methods
Familiarity with HTML/CSS, JavaScript and UI/UX design
Understanding of software quality assurance principles
A technical mindset with great attention to detail
High quality organizational and leadership skills
Outstanding communication and presentation abilities
MSc/MA in computer science, engineering or relevant field
Extensive experience with enterprise architecture best practices and goals
Excellent leadership and motivational skills
8+ years of experience with the following: Java, Spring framework, cloud development, and Web Services (REST, SOAP) supporting high volume transactions in a Highly Available environment
2+ years of experience in Cloud deployment in continuous integration and continuous delivery model (CI/CD)
2+ years of experience with continuous build process using Bamboo, Bitbucket/Git, or similar tools
2+ years of experience with Pivotal Cloud Foundry (PCF)
Prior experience in IT Transformations and system modernization initiatives from legacy to distributed platforms; i.e. Mainframe Cobol apps/DB2 to Java apps/SQL or MongoDB
6+ years of experience in Distributed Databases; SQL Server, MongoDB, Informatica
Knowledge of the Agile methodology and experience in an Agile working environment, including SAFe is a plus
Experience with the Atlassian tool stack is a plus
Experience with .NET framework, programming tools (Visual Studio) and C# is a plus
Experience in RabbitMQ is a plus
Experience in Financial Services industry is a plus
Experience in Test Driven Development is a plus
Knowledge of Mainframe environment, including interfaces, tools, and associated technologies is a plus
Knowledge of the following Mainframe tools/software: Batch Processing, Cobol, DB2, and Changeman is a plus
2+ years of experience in building solutions with Spring Projects such as Spring Boot, Spring Batch, and Spring Cloud Data Flow
2+ years of experience with test automation using Mockito, JUnit or similar frameworks
