TranSystems’s Schaumburg, IL office seeks an experienced senior civil engineer to join our growing office of roadway, highway, structural, transit, rail, and intermodal designers and construction inspectors as a Freight/Transit Rail Design Lead for the TranSystems Central Region.
The person will manage personnel and projects that involve various tasks. The individual will be called upon to work closely with other teams on multi-disciplinary projects. The engineer will have the opportunity to manage and lead challenging projects in a unique and dynamic work environment. The candidate will lead efforts in business development, project delivery, establishing business strategy, and provide leadership and mentoring to staff in offices across the Central Region.
The candidate will manage other engineers and technicians to achieve completion of various tasks, and will also complete certain tasks independently. Microstation, Geopak, and MS Office and other design software will be used.
Minimum 15 years of related, in-field experience, including work directly or as a consultant for railroad and transit agencies in the Chicagoland area and with other railroad and transit agencies across the country.
Candidates must possess strong technical skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work well in a team environment on multi-disciplinary projects.
Previous experience as a Project Manager leading projects is expected.
Individuals must possess an Illinois PE and an Illinois Driver’s License.
General Duties & Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Provides direction to Project Managers, Project Engineers and Staff Engineers as to the general results expected.
Provides technical guidance on unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval on proposed plans for projects.
Lead large freight and rail transit projects.
Participate in design/build projects.
Cultivate responsibilities with clients and actively participate in rail client service teams.
Lead and support business development pursuits.
Within the Chicago Area, key duties will include leading large freight and transit rail project, leading and supporting business development with area freight and transit clients, mentoring and developing junior staff.
Within the Central Region and Northeast Region, duties will include leading freight and transit rail business development, project management, and serving as a Rail Project Engineer for major projects.
Within the Freight and Market Sectors, participate in overall corporate strategy development and execution.
Analyzes information and data to perform routine design tasks.
Makes decisions independently on engineering problems and methods, routinely represents the organization in meetings to resolve important questions, and to plan and coordinate work.
Responsible for accuracy of engineering design and plans, quality presentation, thoroughness and follow-through, and efficient conformance to budgets, schedules, and company standards.
Reviews design options and document findings from the design team.
Manages workload and any changes in project schedule or scope or additional services.
Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
