Role Overview
The Human Resources (HR) Generalist plays a critical role by building and managing effective HR systems while providing outstanding HR customer service to leaders and staff in our schools and regional office. The HR Generalist reports to the Managing Director of Human Assets and partners closely with other staff and school-based staff, including principals and teachers. The ideal candidate for this role will have a deep understanding of HR systems and procedures, especially in a K-12 school setting, experience navigating employee relations issues, and enthusiasm for initiatives that will increase the sustainability of KIPP Memphis’ hard-working staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Benefits, Compensation & Payroll
Manage employee compensation information and assist in payroll coordination with Finance Department.
Oversee the vendors who provide KIPP Memphis’ benefits programs (medical, dental, disability, and retirement) and serve as the lead in reconciling benefit invoices on a monthly basis
Partner with benefits brokers, consultants, and vendors to ensure plans are being administered as designed.
Manage FMLA and leave time for all employees and provide FMLA training to supervisors across the region
Process unemployment claims and serve as the primary point of contact for CORBRA administration
Process regulatory, compliance, and reporting for various regulatory and licensing agencies such as the Charter School State and the Achievement School District
Provide high quality and timely customer service and support and serve

Employee Relations & Policies
Update policies to ensure employee and student safety, health and wellness. Provide on-going training and monitoring to ensure polices are being adhered to across the region.
Case manage personnel issues and workers’ compensation situations, providing support and counsel to employees and managers, consulting with outside legal and other resources as appropriate
Ensure that policies and procedures are in compliance with federal and state labor laws and regulations
Maintain and distribute staff handbook and employee policies
Maintain confidential human resources files
Support with employee investigations including interviews, document collection, recommended actions, and training across the region

Training, Coaching, and Employee Development
Support and contribute to the development and execution of new hire orientation, onboarding, off-boarding, and performance management as applicable.Support and contribute to the development and execution of new hire orientation, onboarding and off-boarding of employees, and performance management as applicable.
Provide ongoing training and support to managers and supervisors in order to improve employee relations, performance management, and other management and leadership trainings
Support employee coaching and development including performance management, employee development, and other areas as needed and/or requested by supervisors.

Certification Coordination
Ensure new employees meet the teaching certification requirements for which they will be teaching
Audit employee files for required documentation including certifications, transcripts, professional development hours or other documents needed to determine accurate licensure
Notify appropriate campus leadership and employees who do not meet the licensing requirement and assist in determining a plan for compliance and monitor progress
Review eligibility for continued employment for employees on special permits or with expired certifications

QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree required (advanced degree in human resources, business, management, education, public administration, or related field a plus)
PHR/SPHR certification preferred
Minimum 4-6 years successful experience in managing human resources related functions
Knowledge of human resources best practices and legal/compliance requirements
Experience in an entrepreneurial, growing nonprofit, public, or K-12 education a plus
Judgment; ability to handle sensitive employment information with discretion and confidentiality as appropriate.
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills; interpersonal skills required to work with a diverse group of stakeholders with different interests and needs
Highly organized; ability to manage multiple projects at once and meet deadlines
Meticulous attention to detail with an ability to produce high quality work in a dynamic environment
Ability to break down complex information into comprehensive parts, ask questions, synthesize and analyze
Highly-motivated and self-directed learner
Unquestioned integrity and commitment to the KIPP Memphis mission and KIPP Memphis community
Willingness to be flexible and to go above and beyond
High proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook. Demonstrated proficiency in Paylocity is strongly preferred

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Satisfactory criminal records check, pre-hire and annually thereafter, if applicable. Must be eligible to work in the United States and provide work authorization. Frequent travel to KIPP Memphis campuses and occasional statewide and out of town travel required.
