MITRE’s NORTHCOM, PACOM, STRATCOM Operations Department (P667) is looking for a nuclear command, control, and communications (NC3) mission data processing systems engineer to lead the development of an NC3 Governance data strategy and data storage capability and supporting architectures. The candidate will work directly with the NC3 Enterprise Organization, under United States Strategic Command as an FFRDC trusted technology advisor. The candidate will work with national level participants in nuclear deterrence operations (NDO) and the supporting data/systems architecture communities (e.g., USSTRATCOM, Joint Staff, HQ Air Force Global Strike Command, HQ Air Force, HQ Navy, DISA, other Combatant Commands) to enable modernization of the NC3 architecture.

Key Functions:
Provide technical leadership for an NC3 enterprise data and architecture strategy

Develop a future NC3 mission data processing technology roadmap to include the advancement of exploitation labs, independent verification and validation of industry community algorithms, and integration of world class research and development across the community

Apply the Data Maturity Model to include Data Culture, Data Management, Data Personnel, Systems/Technology, and Data Governance

Design, develop and implement a Data Management Strategy that addresses all facets of the Data Maturity Model

Work with NC3 architecture leadership to design process that addresses:

Methods for NC3 community to identify key data and understand it’s meaning

NC3 Enterprise shared data access

Rules and guidelines for accessing data, generating core data

Development of methods to establish an unified consistent views of authoritative data

Work in technical teams and collaboratively interact with HQ USSTRATCOM, contractor and other FFRDC partners

This position is part of a diverse technical team of senior SMEs supporting a new government organization as it organizes and is established.

Therefore, the selected candidate will directly impact warfighter missions and the advancement of the U.S. industry base for this mission.


Minimum Qualifications:
DoD-Top Secret Clearance

MS degree or equivalent and 10 years of related experience

  • Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or applicants who are eligible for security clearances.
Required Qualifications:
Self-starter and possess system engineering expertise related to military and/or space systems

Experience with NC3 mission systems, as well as, ground and space system architectures

Experience leading or participating as a subject matter expert in a software development effort

Experience working in the NC2, NC3, and/or DoD Intelligence Community’s architecture community

Obtain and maintain a Top Secret level security clearance

Preferred Qualifications:
Expected to lead sponsor engagement, and must possess excellent communications and written skills, and the ability to work well with STRATCOM, contractor, and other FFRDC personnel

Experience working with Combatant Command systems, communications, and/or operations communities
