Position Summary

This internship provides a comprehensive introduction to the accounting function at Simmons Bank. You will gain experience in all aspects of accounting with an emphasis on general ledger accounting, mortgage accounting, and accounts payable activities. Our 2019 summer internship program runs from June 3rd through August 9th. In addition to your experience in the accounting role, you will also participate in fun networking events, weekly executive lunch panel discussions, a group project and interact with other interns from around the region.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

General Accounting

Assist accountants with general ledger entry preparation
Reviews general ledger activity
Reconciles various general ledger and DDA accounts as scheduled on a daily or monthly basis
Reviews and reconciles daily intercompany activity
Assists managers in preparation and distribution of required reports
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Mortgage Accounting

Reconciles various general ledger and DDA accounts as scheduled on a daily or monthly basis.
Performs reviews of mortgage closing documents
Accounts Payable

Reconciles various general ledger and DDA accounts as scheduled on a daily or monthly basis.
Reviews new supplier request and related documents
Reviews supplier invoice requests and related documents
Reviews daily funding settlements
Qualifications

Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents, technical procedures and regulations.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedures.
Strong communication skills both verbally and in written form.
Excellent attention to detail.
Ability to solve practical problems.
Experience with MS Excel and other MS Office programs
Undergraduate or graduate students pursuing a degree in, Accounting with an interest in banking– 3.2 GPA or higher.
