VCU Health System's Quality & Safety department is seeking a full time Systems Engineer. Systems Engineers are process improvement experts who apply engineering and lean six sigma (LSS) principles and methods to healthcare processes to increase value at VCU Health System as a part of the Quality Safety and Service programs, reporting to the Chief Quality and Safety Officer.

Apply LSS expertise at a black belt level to patient value streams throughout the organization using applicable improvement tools and methods such as Six Sigma, 8D, 5-Why, and PDSA. Lead large cross-functional teams through successful execution of change and provide leadership, facilitation, coaching, teaching, and consultative technical support to VCU Health process owners. Ensures corporate compliance with regulations and company policies. May adopt one or more specialty knowledge areas.

Responsibilities
Collaborates with multiple departments to execute system level process improvement and monitor performance metrics.
Coaches senior leaders on LSS principles and techniques, balancing their needs with the goals of the Lean initiatives.
Develops and delivers advanced value improvement (Lean Six Sigma) training in client or classroom settings utilizing adult learning principles.
Provides expert consultation and advice to sponsors, champions, and executives.
Assesses value improvement work goals for alignment with strategic goals and policies.
Attends variety of meetings, conferences, and seminars as required or directed.
Facilitates teams. Helps colleagues find the best paths within LSS principles.
Shares information openly and proactively

Develops solutions to complex problems and explain them to stakeholders.
Executes basic project management including identifying key milestones and tracking against those, as well as proactively identifying obstacles and escalating when appropriate.
Selects and performs complex process analyses. Some analyses require inferential statistics.

Qualifications
Required

Master's Degree in Quality Engineering, Systems Engineering, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent years of relevant work experience in addition to minimally required work experience
Minimum of ten (10)+ years of experience applying LSS with demonstrated success.
Six Sigma Black Belt or equivalent
Experience with selecting KPIs in Safety, Quality, and Cost areas.
Experience utilizing project management methodologies.
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office especially Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio, Project, Access and Outlook.

Preferred
Experience leading lean transformational efforts in complex organization.
Understanding of healthcare industry & basic terminology.
Experience in a complex academic medical center, solving clinical and business problems.
Experience teaching and coaching Lean Six Sigma methodologies.
Experience as a facilitator of culture change.
A demonstrated track record of successfully working with and motivating diverse work teams, preferably including physician, facilitating complex teams and managing change.
