AJiC invites applications for an entry-level Research Professional position to begin immediately. This position works as a member of the AJiC team to conduct applied research on Alaska's most pressing crime and criminal justice topics, and to produce a variety of research products such as data visualizations, fact sheets and research briefs, comprehensive reports, and presentations.
AJiC invests heavily in its research staff and provides a variety of professional development opportunities including (but not limited to) training in statistical software as well as intermediate and advanced statistical analyses methods. This position also provides opportunity for advancement and promotion.
To excel in this role, incumbents must possess - above all - an understanding of, and a commitment to, the principles and standards of rigorous empirical inquiry.
In addition to being hard-working and being able to work independently, candidates must be curious about crime, the contexts in which it occurs, the people involved in its commission, as well as the social and legal responses to it.
To truly thrive, AJiC Research Professionals must embrace working collaboratively in a team setting, and be able to work well with teammates from different personal and professional backgrounds.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in social/behavioral sciences, or equivalent combination of training and experience (e.g., criminology/criminal justice, sociology). Preference given for candidates with a baccalaureate degree in criminal justice or criminology.
Prior experience conducting statistical analysis.
Position Details:
This position is located on the University of Alaska campus in Anchorage. This is a full-time, term-funded non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 78, based on education and experience.
