Summary
This position is located at the National Intrepid Center of Excellence (NICoE) at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. The NICoE helps service members and their families manage traumatic brain injury (TBI) and/or psychological health (PH) conditions through cutting-edge diagnostic evaluations, comprehensive treatment, outpatient clinical care, family education/support services, and high-quality research. Treatment plans help promote healing of the mind, body, and spirit.

Responsibilities
Design, plan, direct, coordinate and evaluate wellness programs for individuals and groups being seen in the Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Outpatient Clinic.
Create and provide individualized plans and group-based instruction that includes mind body skills.
Mind-Body skills includes: breathing techniques (e.g., diaphragmatic breathing), mental focus practices (e.g., mindfulness, meditation, guided imagery), and body/movement practices (e.g., yoga).
Work with patients with a history of traumatic brain injury and associated psychological health conditions who are seeking to use wellness services to improve stress management, sleep, chronic pain management, and overall well-being.
Instruct and independently modify techniques and equipment to work within patient limitations to produce optimal results.
Determine appropriate progression of wellness programs for patients and completion of clinical objectives.
Include patient's family members, as indicated, to support wellness goals.
Provide group educational programs and health promotion outreach for staff to promote health and well-being.
Demonstrate familiarity with evidence-based mind-body medicine, develop and monitor outcome measures.
Create, evaluate and update patient education materials.
Consult with other healthcare providers on an interdisciplinary team.
Collaborate with and provide back-up coverage for the Wellness Coordinator for the NICoE Intensive Outpatient Program.

This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
This position requires the incumbent to have an annual influenza vaccination unless otherwise exempt due to medical or religious reasons.
This position requires a pre-employment physical and annual physicals thereafter. The incumbent will need to bend, stoop, and stand for long periods of time and be able to assist patients with exercises and movement.
This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.

Education Requirement: Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree with a major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences, or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained Note: You must submit a copy of your transcripts showing degree completion with your application package.

Specialized Experience Requirement: Applicants must demonstrate at least 1 year of specialized experience in their resume. The specialized experience needs to be equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service, GS-11, and includes experience with the following: assisting with the development of wellness programs (determining type and sequence of wellness classes to build on appropriate skills); collaborating with other healthcare professionals to care for patients; and instructing individual or group mind-body classes, such as: yoga, meditation, guided imagery, and/or breathing techniques.
