Summary: Assisting the Legal Counsel – HIPAA Privacy & Security Officer, works to assure Parkview Health (PH) compliance with HIPAA and other federal and state privacy laws and regulations designed to protect patient information. Actively participates in the development and review of PH privacy policies and procedures. Develops and implements PH privacy education and training programs and materials for all levels of PH staff. Performs health information audits to assess privacy risks and to evaluate the effectiveness of privacy procedures and controls. Investigates, manages and facilitates appropriate resolution of privacy issues on the PH compliance log. Performs research and takes other steps to stay abreast of legal and regulatory develops in the area of privacy.

Education: Bachelors degree in HIM business healthcare or other related field required.

Licensure/Certification: Professional certification in HIM compliance or a related field preferred.

Experience: Three to five years experience interpreting health information generally obtained through a coder abstractor chart auditor or record analyst role is required. Strong knowledge of HIPAA and previous experience working with privacy issues required. High degree of integrity and trust with demonstrated commitment to confidentiality required. Demonstrates ability to analyze and interpret electronically and manually documented health information. Demonstrates ability to manipulate and query information systems to obtain audit results. Proficient in using information systems word processing software spreadsheet software and database extractions. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong analytical skills. Ability to work collaboratively with a broad range of constituencies is essential. Good project management skills highly desirable. Must be effective working independently.
