One of my hiring managers (CEO of a successful construction company located in Houston) has asked me to help him find a Corporate Controller who is ready to take his game to the next level. An established and successful heavy highway and civil construction company is looking to hire an experienced Controller to join the team, lead finance efforts on behalf of the company, and assist in the acceleration of growth. A minimum of 8 years of experience in accounting with a proven track record of success is required in addition to 5 years of successful supervisory experience. Due to the collaborative nature of the company and the importance of working well with other departments, strong people skills are needed for this position. An accounting degree is required. The company offers a highly competitive compensation and bonus structure.
This position is directly responsible for ensuring profit benchmarks, set in the strategic planning process, are achieved. The Controller directly manages the accounting department, liaises with the senior management team on key financial matters and works closely with other departments in assisting them with their financial needs.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Lead and manage the accounting department
Provide guidance on recommended capital purchases
Work with and through other departments on assisting with their financial needs
Participate in strategic planning process
Foster and support the company culture
Provide the leadership and direction necessary to sustain the company’s growth.
Degree in accounting.
8 or more years of successful accounting experience with a proven track record of success.
5 or more years of successful supervisory experience leading and managing an accounting team.
A thorough understanding of the construction industry – with preference given to those with heavy highway and civil construction experience and expertise.
Stellar people skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent computer skills, with a sound working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word). Advanced capabilities with Microsoft Excel preferred.
Experience with systems integration's and software changes preferred, but not required.
