This position is in the Division of Allergy and Immunology, Department of Pediatrics at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. The Post Doc will in conjunction with the Principal Investigator (Mirna Chehade, MD, MPH) at the Mount Sinai Center for Eosinophilic Disorders (MSCED), investigating the immunopathology of eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE).
We are seeking a highly motivated individual to work in the field of eosinophilic gastrointestinal disorders. The successful candidate will participate in a research project focused on the effect of proton pump inhibitors (PPI’s) on the esophageal transcriptome in EoE subtypes, and the role of various immune and signaling pathways in PPI-mediated suppression of esophageal eosinophilia. The candidate will be participating in an exciting journey integrating in silico and wet Lab approaches to establish a new paradigm for translating gene expression profiles into mechanistic insights and eventually personalized precision patient care. In silico approaches including analyses of NGS data (including genome wide association studies, RNA sequencing (single cell and whole tissue)), bioinformatics strategies to study the genetic basis of EoE, and wet Lab assays including molecular analyses of primary esophageal cell culture systems, will be conducted.
The successful candidate must hold a PhD or equivalent degree with a background knowledge in immunology. Working knowledge of principles of immunology and molecular biology is required. The candidate must also demonstrate competency in RNA isolation from tissue/cells, RNAseq analysis and immunohistochemistry, as well as demonstrated experience in cell culture techniques, qRT-PCR, cytokine assays and flow cytometry. The candidate will have access to highly collaborative research teams with expertise in the required areas of research, including the Center for Bioinformatics and the Genomics Core and Pathology Core Facilities at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City.
As the current MSCED team members have a strong clinical background and are all highly invested in research, the candidate will present data to the team. Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision and collaboratively as part of the MSCED team, and ability to analyze and communicate experimental results clearly to other team members is required. Exceptional work ethic, strong written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize are required for the position.
This is a unique opportunity to develop expertise in this growing area of EGIDs, which can serve as a platform for a potential future career as an independent research investigator at the MSCED.
The MSCED will provide the candidate with necessary support on all aspects of the project.
Full-time employment at Mount Sinai includes a competitive salary, medical/dental/vision benefits, paid vacation/sick leave, and employer contributions to a retirement plan (403b).
Interested candidates should include their full curriculum vitae, a cover letter briefly stating their career goals, specific research experience and areas of interest, and contact information of three references in their application, and send it to: MountSinaiEosCenter @mssm.edu
