The Dental Assistant will increase the efficiency of the dentist in delivery of oral health care while in the operating room. Responsible for setting up appropriate instruments and supplies for particular operations. Passes instruments and materials to surgeon during operation.
Assists the dentists during a variety of treatment procedures in the operating room
Selects and prepares the necessary supplies and equipment for the dentist prior to surgery
Checks electrical or other equipment for working order and reports unsafe conditions to manager.
Assists team members in transferring and positioning of patients in the OR
Assisting the dentist in taking dental x-rays
Adheres to infection control policies and procedures
Complies and understands aseptic techniques
Demonstrates techniques of disinfection, sterilization and maintaining a clean environment
Utilizes appropriate personal protective equipment during patient care: mask with shield, gown, gloves
Adheres to sterilization and handling process of dental instruments
Promotes high quality care of patients and exceptional service
Effectively communicates with all members of the surgical team
Assists in relief duties with team members
Participates in room turnover
Participates in counting procedure outlined in policy
Adheres to professional standards set by the department
Practices in accordance with the mission and values of the hospital
Adheres to the standards of a healthy work environment
Participates in departmental performance improvement initiatives
Orders necessary supplies to support dental operations or delegates appropriately and effectively
Sets appropriate priorities
Reviews assignment and surgeon’s preference cards.
Performs daily/weekly assignments as listed
Performs other duties as requested
