About the Role
As part of the product team at BlueLabs, you’ll be working with a group of data scientists, engineers, and analysts who focus on working with clients to shape public policy decisions and political outcomes.
The Data Entry Specialist position requires exceptional attention to detail and efficiency. You’ll be responsible for identifying, gathering, and processing data that is critical to product development, ensuring that it is clean, standardized, and conforms to established processes. This role is great for someone who is looking for an environment where they can learn quickly, grow technically, and help build the foundation of a meaningful product.
As a member of a technical team, you'll be expected to learn how to operate in a database environment and pick up the basics of SQL (we'll help you learn!). Past Data Entry Specialists have also developed additional skills on the job (like version control in Github and data analysis), setting them up for future advancement. The team regularly schedules formal and informal trainings and “brown bag” talks, each aimed at introducing a new concept or helping the team to delve deeper into a specific technical or conceptual area.
You will be responsible for tasks like:
Using the internet to identify new publicly-available data sources of value to the product's goals - then downloading or transcribing that data from its original format (webpages, PDFs, searchable web apps, Word documents, etc.) for subsequent loading into our database.
Cleaning and processing data into standardized formats and data types, based on internal conventions.
Running quality control checks on individual data sources (both raw and within the database), identifying and correcting issues as they arise.
Identifying the most efficient ways to ensure that our database remains continuously up-to-date in a rapidly changing political environment.
Effectively collaborating with a technical team of data scientists and engineers.
Diligently documenting your work, including systems you develop and data you process.
Working with government organizations to submit and track requests for public data sources.

You will stand out as a candidate if you have:
Strong Microsoft Excel and/or Google Sheets skills, and experience using spreadsheet functions like vlookup.
Previous experience working in a data entry role - like maintaining and updating records, identifying and fixing data accuracy issues, translating data from PDFs, paper records, or other formats into spreadsheets, sorting and organizing records, etc.
A good understanding of how government and electoral politics function.
Experience working with databases (especially using basic SQL).
