About the job:

  • Design:
  • Develop design concepts, in connection with the design project team
  • Perform product and material research, including procurement of product samples
  • Assist in the preparation of material specifications
  • Produce plans, elevations, sections, and 3D visualization for projects
  • Assistin production of conceptual and finished design presentations
  • Produce physical and digital material design boards
  • Meet project deliverables during all project stages from conceptual presentation materials to construction documentation * Project Coordination:
  • Coordinate appropriately with project team on project timelines, schedules, and on-site installations
  • Approach problems as they arise with thoughtfulness and learn to create effective and responsible solutions
  • Work to anticipate issues that may easily be overlooked to minimize mistakes, inform team lead so that an appropriate solution may be decided upon before informing the client or any vendors
  • Participate and apply information from design critiques and peer design reviews into the project process * Financial:
  • Work closely with the Accounting Department and the project team to manage product orders, process payments, coordinate returns, and maintain vendor relationships
  • Maintain working project management budget spreadsheet throughout the project process
  • Inform Intermediate Designer, Senior Designer, Design Director, or Principal of potential project budget issues as they arise
  • Understand the cost implications of design decisions
  • Work within a client or projects’ budget parameters
  • Maintain credit card record keeping and reconciliation * Vendor Facing:
  • Assist in coordination with architects on document coordination, including finish, lighting, millwork, and detail integration into drawing sets
  • Coordinate with vendors, makers, fabricators, and installers on product orders and installation parameters
  • Interface with structural, mechanical, and electrical engineers or other trades
  • Coordinate and schedule vendor meetings
  • Assist with maintaining the material sample library * Client Facing:
  • Assist with client presentations
  • Participate and coordinate with client representatives during on-site project installations
  • Meet with clients and vendors while fully espousing the professional standards of the Urban Chalet brand
  • Use honesty and appropriate disclosure with clients
  • Inform Senior Designer, Design Director or Principals of any immediate client or project concerns that will open the client or the company up to potential liability

About you:

  • Typically 0-2 years of experience in an architecture, interior design, or other design related company*
  • B.A., B.S., or B. Arch. degree in architecture, interior architecture, interior design, or related field**
  • Excellent proficiency in AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), SketchUp, and Microsoft Office*
  • Basic knowledge of construction materials and methods
  • Strong verbal, listening and written communication skills
  • Excellent organization and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage with foresight, kindness and firmness your peers, colleagues, vendors, contractors and clients
