Job Description:
Summary of Position:
Under the direction the Building Superintendent perform skilled locksmith work in the installation, repair and maintenance of locks, lockers and door closures. Assist others with a variety of maintenance projects.

This position supports the Mission statement of Mills College by delivering excellent support and services to students, staff and faculty. Through its operational excellence, it advances the initiatives of the strategic plan, by ensuring goals are established, monitored and measured to meet the plans timelines and objectives. This position plays a significant role in supporting sustainability programs and creating a vibrant and inclusive campus life.

Essential Job Functions:
Assure the security and safety of campus equipment and facilities through proper maintenance of door locks and closures.
Install and repair locks; disassemble locks to determine source of problems; lubricate, repair or replace parts as necessary and reassemble.
Adjust and replace door jams; repair panic hardware; install, troubleshoot and maintain door alarms.
Maintain sufficient inventory of materials needed for maintaining campus locks and keys.
Adjust door hinges latches and bars.
Assist in opening locks when keys cannot be located.
Maintain accurate records of all key cuts on campus. Document all lock and key changes that occur on campus.
Maintain records such as new or changed keying systems, master keys and work completed; cut new or duplicate keys, using a key cutting machine as needed.
Operate a variety of tools and power equipment including saws, drills, key cutting machine, grinders and other maintenance tools and equipment; drive a vehicle to conduct work.
Assist in performing other skilled maintenance duties as assigned; repair and replace outdoor light fixtures and change bulbs; assist with animal trapping and pest abatement as assigned.
Establish and maintain effective and productive working relationships within a diverse and multicultural environment.
Establish and maintain an effective customer service orientation towards all persons contacted during the course of job performance.
Maintain safe work conditions and comply with established safety policies, practices, procedures and requirements
Perform related duties as assigned.

Knowledge of:
Methods, materials, tools and equipment used in locksmith work.
Variety of locks available and appropriate applications.
Lock parts including different types of locks.
Record-keeping techniques.
Technical aspects of being a lock smith.

Read, write and speak English fluently
Solid communication and interpersonal skills.
Must be customer service oriented.
Meet or exceed the colleges attendance and tardiness guidelines.
Estimate material costs for projects
Maintain inventories for work area
Work in crews or independently.
Understand and follow directions and complete work assignments on schedule.
Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Take appropriate steps to promote and sustain effective working relationships within a diverse multicultural environment.
Work safely in compliance with College Injury and Illness Prevention Plan.

Education and Training:
High school diploma or equivalent. Any combination equivalent to: training in a locksmith apprenticeship program or five years of journey-level locksmith experience.
Valid California Drivers License

Physical, Mental and Environmental Demands:
Lifting, pulling, or pushing heavy objects up to 50lbs.
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate hand and power tools and equipment.
Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching.
Standing for extended periods of time.
Visual acuity to perform locksmith work.

Indoor and outdoor environment.
Driving a vehicle to conduct work.
Seasonal heat and cold or adverse weather conditions.

Additional Information:
This is a full-time, non-exempt position with an FTE of 1.0. Salary includes an excellent benefits package including medical/dental/vision/life/LTD insurance, 403(b) retirement plan with college-matching after 6 month qualifying period, 10 days of vacation for year one, 15 days of vacation for years 2-10, and 22 days of vacation years 10+ plus, 12 sick days and 10 paid holidays annually.
