The Public and Government Affairs intern will serve as support staff for the Government Affairs department with additional responsibilities for the Aquarium's Senior Vice President of External Affairs. This position will assist Government Affairs staff with communications and relationship building through a variety of responsibilities. This individual should be creative energetic organized and have an interest in public affairs at the State and Local levels.

This individual should be creative energetic organized and have an interest in public affairs at the State and Local levels.

Essential Functions:
Assist in preparation for meetings between Government Affairs team and Elected officials
Opportunity to observe and participate in State and Local legislative meetings and hearings with Government officials advocating on behalf of the Aquarium
Research VIPs and Elected Officials
Research and draft memorandums and briefing materials to Senior Staff and policymakers on specific issues
Special Event planning for National Aquarium events
Attend and participate in National Aquarium wide lectures and events
Research and update mailing lists and Salesforce contacts
Provide correspondence with the local community about community programs and events s through phone and/or written correspondence
Assist with mass mailings
Work closely across departments including Marketing Development Animal Programs and the Executive Office
Other duties as assigned

Requirements:
At least two years of Undergraduate Academic work towards a degree in any of the following: Public Administration Political Science Journalism English Sociology Marketing Public Relations Communications Urban Development Business or a related field
Be able to work a minimum of 120 hours within the chosen semester
Receive college credit for their work at the Aquarium.
Internships at the National Aquarium provide hands-on and minds-on experiences that add value to any college education. Applying classroom knowledge interns obtain valuable job experience and establish professional contacts.

College internship positions are available year-round in many departments throughout the Aquarium. The Aquarium makes every effort to match interns to work that complements their studies interests and skills.
