The American University of Beirut (AUB), Lebanon, invites applications and nominations for the position of Registrar.

The Registrar plays a critical role in the collaboration among academic, student service, and administrative units in advancing the academic mission of the university. Reporting to the Provost, the Registrar is responsible for overall leadership and management of administrative, operational, and technical functions of the Office of the Registrar. The Registrar plays a major role in assuring that students are provided with consistent, high-quality services, in alignment with AUB’s strategic goal to enhance the student learning experience. The Registrar should be strategic, decisive, and a resourceful leader. Additionally, s/he must keep abreast of operational and reporting best practices, regulations and policies, and technology solutions for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the Office of the Registrar.

Primary functions and responsibilities

The following functions are not to be construed as all-inclusive. Additional functions may be assigned based on management discretion and institutional needs.

  • Lead the Office of the Registrar innovatively and collaboratively to respond to institutional needs and anticipated growth;
  • Mentor and supervise Office of the Registrar’s staff members with attention to ongoing professional development;
  • Partner with key administrative units and academic faculties and schools;
  • Ensure the integrity, accuracy, and security of all academic records of AUB students;
  • Facilitate effective student registration and enrollment;
  • Maintain up-to-date course schedules, catalogs, final examination schedules;
  • Manage efficient use of classrooms;
  • Ensure compliance with applicable Lebanese and US laws, regulations, and university policies;
  • Develop the University Calendar;
  • Build secure student data files and set policies and procedures for their responsible use;
  • Oversee and maintain student systems, including Banner and degree audit systems;
  • Evaluate existing systems, workflows, and technology to institute improvements as needed, and in connection with best practices and professional standards.


The ideal candidate:

  • Possesses a graduate degree, a doctoral degree would be considered an asset;
  • Has a minimum of 10 years progressive experience in academic or educational enrolment services environment;
  • Demonstrates comprehensive understanding of all elements of a complex registrar operation;
  • Has a minimum of 5-year experience at a senior leadership level demonstrating outstanding skills and success in developing a vision and managing people to achieve exemplary performance and outcomes;
  • Has experience at a functional and operational level with student information systems and degree audit systems, with direct knowledge of Banner and ARGOS reporting preferred;
  • Has exceptional management, problem solving, administrative, analytical, interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
