Location: Remote (valid California therapy license)
Compensation: Part-Time hourly $62-80/hr
SideBy Care delivers whole-person care to help clients discover the drivers of functional GI disorders and personalized coaching to achieve long-term health. SideBy Care provides clients with an expert team of registered dietitians, gut-brain therapists, and care coordinators, we support clients with regular care team visits, educational videos, plus personalized care plans and coaching.
We are seeking a bilingual part-time mental health Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) to join our team as a gut-brain Therapist. They will provide direct patient care for adults living with functional GI disorders (like IBS), collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, and participate in the refinement of the SideBy Care approach to care delivery. The ideal candidate is skilled in providing psychological services to patients with GI conditions and associated behavioral health concerns and consulting with medical providers.
We are looking for an individual who has the flexibility in their schedule to meet with patients and the team during regular business hours Monday - Friday. We will provide training on gut-brain therapy, if you do not have experience.
NOTE: This is a Part-Time Position and while remote, you must be licensed in the State of California.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- As part of our integrated team, you will implement SideBy Care's Gut-Brain therapy program to help patients with functional GI disorders to reduce their symptoms, create new health beliefs and behaviors, and develop new coping strategies to manage stress
- Apply brain-gut psychotherapy interventions (primarily CBT) and other clinical therapy interventions as needed via telehealth appointments according to SideBy Care's GI specific protocols
- Assess patient eligibility for SideBy Care program participation given its unique holistic approach and virtual delivery model
- Collaborate with medical providers, GI-focused dietitians, and leadership to build and maintain a cohesive, patient-focused environment.
- At times, provide education related to the provision of gut-brain interventions to partnered medical providers, patient support groups, and community education forums (as needed). Assist in creating patient education materials.
- Maintain clinical and coding knowledge in an evolving healthcare environment. Document appropriately and in a timely manner in EHR.
- Serve as a strong patient advocate and a role model for patient care
- Engage in continuous education to stay informed about the latest treatment modalities for functional GI disorders.
- Identify and suggest opportunities for improvement that ensure patient safety and quality outcomes
- Prioritize flexibility in your "virtual clinic" schedule to maximize patient access to appointments and meet productivity targets
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Current MFT, LCSW or LPC license in CALIFORNIA
- Experience
- Experience in the provision of evidence-based treatments (such as CBT, MI, ACT, BA, biofeedback)
- Applicants without direct experience in providing gut-brain therapies may be considered if they have strong skills in applying CBT protocols for other health conditions as well as very strong understanding in the gut-brain connection (the ability to explain this to patients is a core skill).
- Preferred Experience
- Experience providing gut-brain specific therapies to functional GI patients (not required, we will provide training to practice gut-brain therapy)
Competencies Required
- Knowledge
- Knowledge of key psychological diagnostic and therapeutic principles, practices and techniques.
- Strong understanding of the GI system, gut-brain connection, and basic knowledge of the primary treatments for functional GI disorders.
- Up to date knowledge of regulatory and licensing requirements, including documentation standards, coding, billing and use of medical terminology.
- Skills and abilities
- Fluent in Spanish
- Demonstrates interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively and courteously with patients, physicians, and team members. Is professional and respectful in all forms of communication and correspondence.
- Proficient in an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and with remote platforms for telehealth.
- Shows strong initiative, good judgment, and informed decision making to achieve organizational objectives.
- Has an uncompromising adherence to strong moral and ethical principles and puts patients first.
- Maintains strict confidentiality of personnel, fiscal, and health information.
- Likes to work in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment with rapidly changing patient care needs.
- Comfort in working with medical professionals and allied health.
