A member of the department leadership team with primary responsibility for the Management and Supervision of the Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) program, including specific supervisory responsibility for evaluations for all CPE Residents and Interns. Works in partnership with the Director of the Department for Spiritual Care and Wholeness to further department strategic plan. Conducts programs of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) for the Level I and Level II. Supervises summer unit of Level 1 and Level II CPE of seminarians and local clergy, supervises the residency year, and potentially offers extended CPE. Collaborates with Department Director and staff preceptors in matters affecting CPE intern and resident educational issues. Maintains an integral relationship with the Association of Professional Chaplains (National accrediting organization). Ministers to the spiritual needs of patients, families, and Cone Health - Moses Cone employees. Assists in sacramental ministry as appropriate; provides referral to ordained chaplains or community faith leaders for requested rituals as needed. Works cooperatively with other members of the Department in planning and providing a total program of spiritual care. Serves on committees within Department, and other hospital committees, task forces, or enterprise committees as requested. Provides direction, support, and participates in educational program development and training for the department. Assists in orienting new personnel to Chaplain Services. Prepares and maintains records for assigned area. Records patient care activity in the Electronic Medical Record. Assumes other responsibilities as assigned by the Director.
Advanced theological degree from an ATS accredited seminary (or its equivalent in the endorsing body) and responsible pastoral and general hospital experience. Preferred: PhD or D.Min. in relevant academic field.
Minimum of 3 years of Clinical Pastoral Education Supervisory Experience, post certification.Preferred:
Five plus years of Supervisory Education Experience and Supervisor in Training Education Experience.
- Ordination and/or endorsement for service as a Chaplain by appropriate faith community
- Certification as an ACPE Certified Educator or ACPE Associate Certified Educator by the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) or the National Association of Catholic Chaplain/United States Catholic Conference (NACC/USCC).
