The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences within the UW School of Medicine is the third largest clinical department within the School of Medicine with 285 full-time faculty members, 280 clinical faculty members, and over 200 staff. Department faculty provide clinical services in 5 hospitals, 14 primary care locations, and several outpatient sites in addition to telepsychiatry consultations to more than 150 clinics in Washington and beyond. As the only academic psychiatry department serving the five state WWAMI region (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, Idaho), the Department’s highly competitive residency training program is largely responsible for developing the mental health workforce in the Pacific Northwest. The Department’s robust research portfolio totals $35 million in grants and contracts per year for projects ranging from clinical neurosciences to treatment development to health policy and population health. The Department is recognized as an international leader in developing, testing, and implementing Collaborative Care, an integrated care model increasingly seen as a solution for population-based mental health care. Other areas of excellence include Addictions, Autism, High Risk Youth, Neurosciences, and Trauma, and the Department is developing innovative new programs in Technology and Mental Health, Global Mental Health, Maternal and Child Mental Health, and Targeted Intervention Development.
The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is looking for a Social Worker for the Harborview-based Trauma Survivors Outcomes and Support (TSOS) research program. TSOS currently supports two trauma center studies: one 25-site investigation funded through the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) and one single-site study funded through the Patient-Centered Outcome Research Institute (PCORI). The Social worker will coordinate the clinical needs and patient safety monitoring (regulatory) for the PCORI-funded project, which aims to develop a new intervention for injured trauma survivors.
Patient safety monitoring including responding to patient report of suicidality by conducting suicidality evaluation calls, documenting outcome of these calls, regulatory reporting, and engaging in appropriate tasks to ensure patient safety in accordance with study policies and procedures. The social worker will also assist in the evaluation and documentation of adverse study events.
Engage in intervention delivery including care management, behavioral interventions, and other collaborative care intervention activities with injured trauma survivors
Carry study cell phone during workday hours in order to triage patient safety-related calls from study sites and follow-up interviewers.
Assist in treatment planning for enrolled intervention patients.
Participate in team supervision for the study intervention.
Draft/edit IRB application/modification content, filing IRB communications and approval letters, creating and maintaining tracking databases for invoices and site-specific data, drafting email communications, and filing regulatory paperwork.
Draft/edit consent, assessment and intervention forms and documents.
Communicate daily with project personnel. Notify appropriate research personnel regarding problems or complications reported by participants or sites. Attend regular project meetings, supervision, and work collaboratively with staff. Conduct interviews with and track progress of patients enrolled in the study; interviews may be completed over the telephone or in-person.
Enter data, and ensure data quality using SPSS, Excel and REDCap. May prepare summary narrative reports, graphs, tables, charts and illustrations. Maintain confidentiality of participant records.
Edit and assist in the preparation of manuscripts, presentations, reports and grants submissions, including text and tables/figures.
Conduct literature reviews.
Draft and copy edit various professional correspondences.
Coding qualitative human subject data and standardized patient data interviews for quality assessment.

A Master of Social Work Degree from a program accredited by the Council of Social Work Education AND six months of experience in a health care delivery system OR equivalent education/experience.
Health care experience can include a practicum placement as part of a social work training program and/or employment experience.
5 or more years of experience on a research team
Clinical experience or interest in suicide prevention
Computer skills with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, REDCap and SPSS
