What you’ll be doing...
The Principal Consultant will provide thought leadership to Verizon and its customers, guiding each into the future by being the foremost expert in leveraging the established and emerging (i.e. Wi-Fi / WLAN, 5G and Cellular technologies, mobile computing, IoT, Virtual Network Services, and SDN) technologies to solve real-world business problems. They must also be versed in various cloud platform providers, leading manufacturers in the networking space, virtualization and orchestration technologies. They must demonstrate this expertise through individual actions as well as an ability to collaborate with and lead cross-functional teams.
The Principal Consultant will work with internal stakeholders across multiple business groups to spur innovation and drive business growth through:
New professional service offers
Creative use of technology
Compelling Service Chaining
Network slicing methodologies
They will work with customers to mesh activities between people, technology, and the economics necessary to implement strategies that allow Enterprise customers to innovate, drive operational and technical efficiencies, improve technical performance, and deliver a more responsive network environment. They will foster “smart” innovation through a consultative approach that maps a business’s challenges and priorities to strategy, taking into consideration the customer’s existing technology assets, processes, resources, and funding to develop innovative deployment and integration models that maximize efficiencies and customer experience.
Verizon has a broad range of assets, technologies, solutions, and partners, which can be deployed, funded, and adopted in unique ways by our customers. As such, it’s critical that the Principal Consultant is able to look across the overall Verizon portfolio and assist customers to align their desired business outcome to the appropriate business model, finance model, and technology solution set.
In this role, you'll be responsible for:
Consistently demonstrate the value of Verizon Professional Services by delivering highly professional and successful engagements.
Review and analyze current technology infrastructure and its ability to support strategic objectives.
Identify and propose specific strategies, initiatives and remedies necessary to align technology and infrastructure with corporate objectives.
Support development of business drivers, business case and high-level program implementation plan aligned to a strategy to both maximize Client benefit realization and Verizon revenue.
Translate Client business issues/opportunities into technical solution/business requirements.
Build and communicate the value proposition of the end to end solution to client executives.
Collaborate with Verizon Product teams to ensure Verizon solutions are compliant with Verizon standards.
Partner with the bid management organization to build out detailed RFP responses and contract development.
Collaborate with presales engineering on strategic architectural planning to achieve goals by prioritizing initiatives and coordinating the evaluation, deployment, and management of current and future state architectures.
Act as a Thought Leader for the client’s business goals and vision via regular in-person and written communications with the client executives, agency/department heads and end users.
Develop and publish white papers showcasing Verizon’s innovation and thought leadership in the networking space.
What we’re looking for...
You'll need to have:
Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
Six or more years of relevant work experience.
Ten+ years of experience within network engineering and other data communications fields.
Background in Wireless/Mobility/Cellular networks and Networking/Internetworking devices, protocols and operating systems.
Demonstrated knowledge of, and interest in, emerging technologies such as IoT, SDN, NFV, 5G, and MEC, with a focus on Enterprise use cases.
Experience with the following:
Cellular and other mobile communications technologies such as LMR, RoIP, SATCOM, etc
NFV solutions with enterprise services (such as MPLS) and managed services
Software Defined solution design with vendors such as Cisco (Viptela and or iWAN), Versa, and Silverpeak
Enterprise level network implementations, in multiple industries, leveraging cellular data connectivity, in addition to NFV and Software Defined services
Professional or higher level industry certifications within the network engineering field such as CCNP (Wi-Fi), JNCIP (any track), CCIE.
Architecture, design, and development of end to end Wi-Fi Solutions for Verizon customers (Cisco, Cisco Meraki, Extreme Networks, Aruba).
Responsible RF design, RF propagation modeling, site survey's at enterprise locations with tools such as Ekahau & AirMagnet.
Even better if you have:
BS or higher with a STEM focus (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) OR 8+ years of military service within a communications specialty (i.e. data communications, technical controller, satellite communications, cyber security, etc.).
In-depth experience in technical consulting/advisory/strategy position supporting Fortune 100 companies at multiple interface levels (C-Level etc.).
Financial analysis experience (ROI, cost analysis, business case development, etc)
“Big 5" consulting experience.
Data collection, troubleshooting, interference analysis, and RF optimization.
Experience with software and application development, to include API integration.
Experience with any of the following: WAN optimization, Wireless LAN, Cellular, datacenter technologies (load balancers, datacenter switching, etc.), virtualization technologies and concepts (Hypervisors, orchestration, software defined datacenter, NFV, etc.), security appliances and concepts (firewalls, IPS/IDS, identity management, access controls, etc.)
Implementation technical oversight, integration of Wi-Fi solutions into the macro network.
Demonstrated history of subject matter expertise within claimed specialty (ies), for example: WLAN, advanced configurations, etc.
Demonstrated expertise in solution design –ability to lead a design related discussion with leading questions to fully vet a customer’s requirements and develop a proposed design fulfilling said requirements, identify potential impacts of a given design recommendation, knowledge of other technologies and their network requirements/impact, ability to produce comprehensive yet understandable technical documentation (design document, diagrams, etc.).
Demonstrated expertise in correlating business drivers and needs (financial drivers, impacts, and restrictions) into technical solutions, on proposed solutions.
Demonstrated communication and relational skills – able to form a trusted advisor relationship with a customer, able to listen and guide a technical discussion, able to clearly articulate complex topics.
Does not require direct supervision able to take high level direction and proactively move a project or internal initiative from start to finish with minimal assistance.
Able to perform a wide variety of technical and organizational tasks and may lead or direct the work of others.
Demonstrated history of mentoring less experienced engineers while maintaining productive relationships with peers.
Knowledge of and interest in orchestration technologies such as Ansible, Napalm, Cisco DNA Center, etc.
