The Office of the General Counsel currently consists of twenty attorneys providing a broad array of legal services for an academic research university. The Office is seeking an attorney to work on a wide range of issues, including research projects and regulation, research compliance, intellectual property, emerging technologies, and international work. The successful candidate will have the ability to analyze complex matters and react appropriately; must exercise excellent judgment; handle multiple matters; offer counsel to high-level University officials and researchers; utilize outside counsel in a cost effective manner and work independently.

Minimum Qualifications for Grade
Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant

Draft agreements in support of research and training and in other areas; Provide guidance on intellectual property and new technology issues; Provide legal support for international projects and initiatives; provide legal, administrative, and academic team members with support in response to government inquiries and in support of internal investigations; Handle research compliance matters; Respond to inquiries from internal clients and work closely with outside counsel (both domestic and international; Support all University related legal efforts as needed

Additional Position-Specific Minimum Qualifications
Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant

A Juris Doctor degree from a nationally recognized law school with excellent academic credentials in law school and undergraduate studies.

A minimum of 8+ years of legal practice experience focused on general corporate/transactional matters; strong foundational law firm training and/or extensive in-house experience demonstrating continuous growth; excellent drafting skills; confidence and judgment necessary to act pragmatically; high level of intellectual curiosity; ability and desire to function collaboratively; openness to growth and learning in a team environment, consistent with the goals and principles that guide the Legal Department; strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate easily with colleagues and internal clients. Must be admitted to the New York State Bar or admitted within one year of hire.
