Western Utility Telecom is a growing and innovative company seeking a Design Engineer who
can support our design team. We are a custom engineering and manufacturing company that services the telecom and utility industries nationwide. Being a part of the Engineering department means you will be vital in the way our company
designs steel structures such as antenna supporting structures, transmission poles, electrical
substation structures, and related custom structures.

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:
 Exercises discretion and independent judgement to prepare structural engineering
analyses using computer-aided engineering techniques. Engineering documents must be
completed to company and departmental standards and at a quality level appropriate for
the next chain in the company’s product development cycle.
 Prepare engineering calculations in accordance with industry and local building codes.
 Engineering calculations must be completed within the designated time frame identified
by the Engineering Manager.
 Work with the Design/Drafting department to verify drawings meet the design intent of
engineering documents.
 Detail oriented, able to work under tight time frames, multi-task, prioritize and complete
duties in a timely manner.
 Good mental reasoning capabilities.

Specific Skills:
 Experience with various engineering analysis software such as Risa 3-D.
 Efficient in determining structural capacities of common structural steel shapes using
AISC steel design manual.
 Efficient in designing bolted and welded connections using AISC steel design manual.
 Experience in the design of concrete foundations using ACI 318.
 Determine base reactions of structures based on wind and seismic forces.
 Experience with various MS Office tools such as Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
 Experience with AutoCAD.
 Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Education and/or Experience:
 Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering
 0 – 2 years of experience in structural steel design. We are willing to train college

Job Conditions:
 Part time or full time available
 Hours may exceed more than 40 hours per week especially during peak times.
 Clean office in a manufacturing environment.

 Hourly compensation consistent with market research on similar positions in Oregon.
 Quarterly on-time delivery incentive program.
