AMA is seeking candidates for a Junior Software Developer to join our team in Hampton, Virginia to support the Atmospheric Science Data Center on site at NASA Langley Research Center. In the software development role, successful candidates will provide science and programming support for the ASDC to enable storage, retrieval, and processing of atmospheric data. Candidates will work with both internal senior analysts and the atmospheric science community at large to develop software to improve data access and usability. In addition to software development, candidates will also assist in the preparation of plans, reports, and documentation for scientific efforts.
Specific job requirements and skills include:
BS in Computer Science, Atmospheric Science or related field
Software development using JAVA, C++, Perl, Python, and/or R in support of atmospheric research or data processing
Knowledge of data formats include HDF4, HDF5, HDF-EOS, NetCDF
Experience working with Relational Database Management systems such as PostgreSQL and MySQL
Capable of understanding and using Geospatial Services including WMS, WMTS, WCS, WFS
Capable of understanding and using GIS servers/clients including GeoServer, ARCServer, QGIS and ArcGIS
Ability to understand meteorological systems such as cloud physics, radiation budget, aerosols, tropospheric composition at multiple scales including global, synoptic scale, mesoscale, and microscale
Capable of applying practical knowledge of orbital mechanics related to Earth Observing Satellites
Knowledgeable working with software version control such as SVN and Git a plus
Ability to design and implement science workflow processes a plus
Ability to design, create, and maintain interactive web content a plus
US Citizenship required for the advertised position.
